Well, I've just had some of the most terrifying dreams of my life. I had to wake myself up, which I haven't had to do for a long while. I felt pure terror.

Is there any way to remember the dreams afterwards? I want to write them down in case they happen again, because these are the sort of dreams that can stop me going to sleep, and as such would prefer to go to the doctors rather than lose sleep.

Thanks guys :)

(awaits man up comments... :p)

I never remember my dreams, but I get to hear all about my girlfriends "facinating" ones, so im kindof glad I don't remember my own as im sure they would be even worse.

Ditto. Maybe it's a female thing, remembering pointless dreams in ridiculous detail.

I've had some awesome dreams that would make epic films, but alas I never write them down and forgot them.

I did dream I was in TOWIE last night though. :o

one of my friends' dads does this and has been for the past 15+ years.

you'll remember more of the dreams you had in the first few minutes of waking up, so be prepared to note it down.

aside from that, lay off the weed and you might actually have a memory to use ;)

I remember quite a few of my dreams.....one that stands out was one I had where I was chopping through hordes of zombies using a guitar with Dave Grohl on a local playing field, when they invaded a concert where I was playing with Dave Grohl.......(I cant even play guitar)

I would prefer to remember them in detail rather than a vague cloud of abject terror, that's kind of the point :)

I don't really know anyone (or at least they don't admit it) who has dreams to the level of mine, male or female, so I have no real reference point?

Apparently the really bad dreams stick with you, so either my memory is really terrible or the worst is yet to come. Hopefully the former.

Best dream I've ever had:

I was helping out the filming of a top gear car review, Jeremy left the review car unattended and I hijacked it and went for a joyride. Jeremy proceeded to drive after me in another fast car armed with a gun.

I don't remember if he killed me because I think I woke up.

See, that sounds fun :)

Thinking about it, I can remember one detail. Walking in a group (entirely imagined people, which I found quite odd), everything was fine, can't remember that part. However I looked away, looked back and they had gone, it became incredibly cold and misty and a complete sense of absolute terror filled me - it was like the air itself was filled with a malignant will against me. Then I heard the group's voices again, but distorted so they were menacing. I don't really want to go into detail about the rest though as I don't think it would be forum friendly.

Focusing on the individual fragments that I can remember seems to help, but the rest becomes more vague.

you're 1 step away from being a schizophrenic serial killing nutjob, enjoy :D

When you snuggle down and start to find yourself in the halfway house between being awake and asleep then you are pretty much hypnotic, you can work at it all from there.
In this state you can imagine the scenario playing out and it is up to you how you wish to tackle it.
Imagine having a nightmare but not being afraid, imagine a nightmare and taking control or imagining a nightmare and being able to remember it when you wake, it's all up to you.

The dreamstate and the voyage to it are very powerful forces.

Always get weird ones a lot of the time, Amazing about how you can dream about things you have never thought about and they somehow become so realistic. I sometimes get the feeling I know im in a dream and have to stop myself waking up if its a good one ;)

I don't have the transition, although I've had it mentioned to me before. I'm awake and then I'm dreaming.

What you are describing is my dreamstate though. I'm always controlling the dream and making the choices, however the dreamstate doesn't really react to that well. Last resort I can wake myself up, but that usually leaves me in a cold sweat, so I try and avoid it.

I used to weirdly practice lucid dreaming, as it happened a couple of times to me, so I read up on it, it teaches you to start writing down your dreams, studying them, and allowing you to identify when your in a dream using markers, thus being able to control them if you can identify you are in one without waking yourself up.

It worked a few times, but I gave up on it.

That sounds awesome, so once in a dream you can make decisions?

That's what I described, it's my natural state of dreaming apparently. Problem is the dreams get worse the more I try to control. Which is rather odd.

Yeah, you essentially study your dream patterns, identify markers, like for instance when your in your dream, and you see a person, you never really see their face, its always a blur, if you can keep telling yourself "the face is blurry, therefore this must be a dream" or if you read writing on a piece of paper in a dream, most of the time its unreadable, you can identify you are in a dream.

There is loads of different ways you can tell yourself you are dreaming, getting the technique right though takes time.

Once you have mastered it you can start taking control of what you are doing, and alter your dream.
