Hey everyone,

So I've been informed unofficially I may have to attend a recruitment evening for a firm I applied to next week, for which I need a new pair of dress shoes as mine were damaged in August.

I have a pair of Meermin Oxfords that I'm waiting on, but can cancel since they'll now not arrive by next week, but they seem the best bang for the buck as far as dress shoes go.

What should I do?

A. Get a pair of cheap shoes to use just once and continue with the Meermin order?

B. Cancel the Meermin order and buy another pair on the high street/online for the same money, or maybe slightly more?

If option B, can anyone give me some good advice on shoes I can have in my hands by no later than next Tuesday for ~£150?

Thanks a lot guys.

Cheap pair from Asos. Don't abuse them and sort of look after them.

Then if you do need a pair to wear all day, get a good pair.

Thanks to everyone with serious replies.

What I was asking for, essentially, is what are good brands in my price region?

I expect to have a number of interviews coming up over the next month or so and I would like a nice pair of dress shoes that'll look good and last.

For £150 in two working days you'll be looking at Barker or Loake from a bricks and mortar, for the latter try to keep to the 1880 range. Quality will be ok but not Meermin standard.

As for what you should do, depends how important the event is and how likely your shoes will be noticed. Personally I'd keep the Meermins and get something cheap for the day then throw.

This is why I love GD.

do you really need helping picking out a pair of dress shoes?! - your mum/dad legal guardian too busy to take you shopping? :p Better hope no prospective employers are reading this thread ;)

Go to Clarks and buy the first acceptable shoe that's on sale for under £40. Will last you for other soirees that can potentially ruin nice shoes and keep Meermins for nicer occasions.

Loakes and grenson in that budget also Charles thyrrit shoes are actually rebranded loakes and can usually be had for £90 to £150. Cheaper end of hand made English shoes but all excellent.

I'm sure that without GD, across the UK and beyond we would have people walking around shoeless, broke due to eBay scams, and naked due to the fact they can't shop without going to a Computer forum for advice on £1400 belts.

We need a subforum for the ones who can't go through their daily lives without asking someone to hold their hand about some sort of decision.
