Drift Innovations HD170 Stealth "Action Cam"

Hi all, I've just bought one of these

hd170stealth.jpg

from the States for £230 (+ free 32GB card) and some extra mounts for some track days and my mates Rally Car but the best part is that after getting stuck in Customs for ages (weeks) the company have sent me a new one just as the original got delivered today!

So now I've got 2 + one of those chinese keyring style ones (although mine is torch shaped) for some full on multi-angle awesomeness!

Has anyone else got one as I've a question? The only issue is file size (6min of 1080p is 500Mb) so I couldn't really put up a video to show off it's image quality (will YouTube take that sort of file size?). What are people's recommended codec's etc for reducing this, I'm already using VirtualDub 1.10 but I'm struggling to get it below 1/2 the file size.

Cheers.................................IAnH

AFAIK Youtube takes 1080P fine, but it will compress so the quality maybe less than you get outside of Youtube.....but probably still perfectly acceptable.

Yeah I'd seen some claimed "1080" stuff which was 20mins long and there's no way my internet could've D/L'd 2Gb in 20 mins if my real 1080p file sizes are anything to go by.

I've got my 6min clip down to 80Mb with it looking "reasonable" using x264 and some deblocking with smoothing and/or sharpening as req'd. But it's still 80Mb for 6mins, how people can make a 1hr 30 movie onto 700Mb and still look good I'll never know!

Here's a 14Mb 10sec long 1080p clip uploaded to YouTube of me getting in my car - Exhilarating I know!

EDIT I can only see it in 720p Max, a bit strange, I wonder if the 1080p processing takes longer?

Cheers dude, it works for me now so 1080p seems to take awhile to show up by the looks of it.

I'd dropped my 6min movie down to 1280x720 and then even lower to 720x400 (compressed with x264) to get it to 80Mb but I am watching it on a 42in TV so I can probably see "blocking" that you wouldn't notice as much on say a 22/24in monitor. Anyway, 1st test tomorrow as we check the roll cage & windscreen mounts whilst the driver chucks the car about over rough terrain and we see what footage we get.
