Drilling hole in breeze blocks

How to use a diamond core drill bit and SDS drill to drill a hole through breeze blocks:

If you hear that bit at the start of the video where he says that drilling more than one hole is a nightmare...well I need to have a very large hole for the sleeve to fit into the wall, which the chimney section goes through, which is why I cant use a core drill and I have to use alternative methods, such as continual drilling around the shape using a drill bit and possibly SDS plus drill. I only want to know if I can use my ordinary Bosch hammer drill or I really need an SDS plus to fit the drill bit and get the job done?

I have tried three local HETAS stove installers but they are not interested in the job. One of them did come to my house but didn't want to do it. This is why, after a year of trying to find someone I am left to do the job on my own.
I will be honest you will not have fun trying to drill a 5" hole in any wall with a standard drill, you will want at least a more powerful SDS (Don't use hammer with core drills) or hire one.
You can also get these digital angle finders for around £15, probably the easiest option to get your 45 degrees.

you really want an sds with the correct bits. you'll potentially knacker a normal hammer drill the amount of holes you'll be drilling - if it even has the grunt to get through.

What size do you need? 5" is pretty standard core bit size, so 127mm, then you can get 132 or even 140mm surely some of those sizes will work with a sleeve? aren't the sleeves only a couple of mm thick steel?

Twinwall usually has inch of insulation, so 5inch twinwall is 7 inch OD, there also needs to be tolerance in this, you will likely need a 8 inch hole (200-210mm). You should be installing a twinwall sleeve if it has a cavity as well. Unless you can get a core drill rig, this would be stitch drilled, thats how we do it.

As said HSS or speedyhire (speedy are better) for a proper core drill.
Speedy are also in B&Q but I don't think core drills are on the list they have there.
Hire a proper core drill it wont break your wrist if the core cutter suddenly gets jammed.

Ask the guys there to explain it all to you.

With a proper core cutter you drill a pilot hole (10mm from memory) through the wall which acts as the guide. The core has a simple rod in the middle that follows that through the wall.

With a proper core drill you can just drill through from inside (or outside) no need for switching.

Make absolutely certain your cutting the hole large enough they are an absolute nightmare to expand if you undersize.

Fantastic, thanks...I now have some direction on what to do next. Cheers
