Hi all,

Basically I want to get a bit more airflow, and I am looking at drilling the airbox.

How do I go about this, I have the box out and ready, obviously I drill them in the pre-filtered size, but where and how big?

the airbox is at the front of the car. :)

It's pointless. It will just draw hot air from the engine bay resulting in a reduction in performance rather than an increase.

this^ and the disruption in air flow will probably lead to less air getting in, as well as it being hot

I think it only works on bikes mate, due to the airflow of bikes over the engine.
i think if you want to improve airflow maybe a induction kit with a force feed tube.

Depending on the design of the airbox you could just take one end of it off and then gaffer tape the filter over the hole.

Then you'll be able to realise that it makes naff all difference without damaging your airbox, then you can put it back together again.

It shouldn't make much difference if the air is hot since it's a turbo car anyway. Once the air is compressed by the turbo it becomes hot according to thermodynamic laws.

I think that's the reason someone said an open cone is good, but I borrowed one and the noise (whilst pretty awesome under acceleration) got tiresome and did my head in :D

In the end I've left it and spent the evening plumbing in my fuelling and MAP sensor adjustments properly and NOT with Scotchblocks :)

I drilled the airbox on my old 214. Added a little bit of noise but not enough to get tiresome... nowhere near that of an open cone.

And to the people saying "what about heatsoak?", the airbox is just that... a box. Drill the side away from the engine :p
