Indeed, meaning the intake temperature really has little bearing on the matter.
Part dig, part serious.
There are some cars out there where the intake is very carefully tuned for best performance and playing with it causes problems. Subarus, for example, are like this but even on them it's more to do with making the MAF sensor read correctly than anything else.
Most manufacturers don't really bother, and assuming this thread is about the car in the OPs signature, a 2 litre diesel Rover 400 series, I doubt they bothered.
