Hi,

Right, well, I got banned from driving for 21 months for drink driving, this was 20 months ago.

Up until that point I had been driving for just over a year.

I know, Im an idiot, etc etc etc. Learned my lessson, tortured myself over what may of happend over the past 20 months etc etc... been through all that already so Im not after any sort of acceptance/abuse.

My question is, last week I received a "Renewal of driving licence after disqualification" form.

Now I was always unsure as to whether or not I would have to re-take my test after my ban was up.....

Obviously I am going to fill out the form and send it back regardless, but has anyone had any expierience of this?

The court made no mention of a test re-take, nor have the DVLA. All I have is this form which seems to be just to claim my license back.

Any ideas?

I though it was mandatory to re take the practical part of the driving test after you had been disqualified before the DVLA re-issued your licence ?

nope. can just reapply for the license.

thats it. your then ready to drive again.

Im 24, 25 in July.

Have checked out some quotes and its not toooooo bad.

TBH, I may put off buying a car, I seem to be managing to get to work on the bike and its keeping me fit, it will just be nice to have my license back.

Mate you're a disgrace, you should never be allowed to drive again and you should probably die a slow and painful death.

Only joking...as mentioned just reapply and you should be sorted.

umm, I think I was about 3 1/2 times over the limit, thus the length of the ban :(

cant even remember getting in the car, I manged to get about 3/4 of the way home, then on a country lane I took a corner abit fast and into the verge and hit a tree.

I thank the powers that be every day that I didnt hit someone, it could have been soooo much worse :(

The New Drivers act only stipulates that you have to re-take your test if you receive 6 or more points

How many points were put on your license when you were sentenced ? if you just received a ban (and no points) and not ordered to re-take your test. Then you just need to fill out the form to re-apply for your license.

As previously mentioned you only have to retake if they tell you in court, what is odd is that I was told the guidelines for retaking were an alcohol level above 85 (on breath) or a ban longer than you had been driving. Since 3.5 times the limit is 122.5 and you have been banned longer than you drove for before the ban you should count yourself lucky.

Well I was lucky all round tbh.

When I crashed the car it was early July and Gloucester was flooded to crap which meant that the court wasnt open.

They didnt open until late August, so my court date was suspended until then.

I had passed my test the year before in July, which means that if the court date wasent suspended I would have been within a year, as it was, I was just over.

I think this has saved me having to re-take :S

Im gonna send the form back and see what comes of it....

Aah, but just think when you get it back you can drive to the pub again ;)
