Does anyone else get wine, champagne etc at work on Christmas Eve?

It's a bit of a tradition here - but in an hour and a half since we started, all the accounts women are smashed up already!

We get booze for Christmas - not allowed to drink it in the office though. A good thing I think... Save the "You know what? I love/hate you" for the pub.

We get a bottle of wine everyweek if the sales out way the finishers and a bottle of champagne on Christmas eve.
Also
We get a bottle of beer every friday off our boss, though i dont drink at work myself.

Not a bad place to work!

Back in the late 80's and 90's I was working for Lloyds Bank in their IT building at Blackfriars. It was tradition there on Christmas Eve to stop work around midday and wheel in a load of beer/wine/etc and have a party in the office (and yes, occasionally there were loads of stories afterwards!). How times have changed as IT has matured and this kind of thing gets less and less. I moss those days :)

Every Monday night me and the boss would sink a good few cans in the last hour when I worked part time in a chip shop.

"Take a tenner out of the till and get a few cans from Spar boy, there's got to be more to life than this"

Then we'd spend the next hour or so standing there, mops in hand, talking about cars, shagging, drinking, fighting, women, it was great :D

Fighting women ;)

I'm bringing half a dozen tins of Guinness and a half bottle of whiskey into work tonight to keep me going. It's just rude not to have a seasonal drink.

I hear stories in from 20 years ago where the laboratory director used to make a very potent punch to his 'secret' recipe whilst cooking eveybodies Christmas puddings in the autoclaves, by 1 or 2 in the afternoon everybody was hammered and all work ground to a halt. Then again in those days they used to use petri dishes as ash trays whilst working at the benches:eek:

Kinda on topic...i was on work experience a few months ago and as i had a busy day/night ahead, i whipped out a can of Relentless. A woman beside me almost fell off her chair and said "Wow beer! Are you allowed to do that?".

:o

Work in a pub, it's very rare for me not to be drinking while I'm working - I just have to leave the Belgian beers til after the shift so I can still function :p Beats working for Spoons anyway.
