Drinking too much?

All or nothing is easy. But learning to drink a little bit, responsibly, that'sa disciprine. Disciprine... come from within.

Can't watch it atm and I am in a similar position to the OP, I don't really care much apart from my worry that regular drinking can affect my intelligence for the worse. I don't know if this is true though...

It's a good watch.

Pretty harrowing seeing people needing Liver transplants because of drinking, then a medical board has to decide who gets one or not.

Since moving to ukraine Ive practically become an alcoholic. A bottle of vodka here is £2 max and everyone drinks. Infact last week I broke the cycle because 3 weeks prior I had a drink every day for 3 weeks.

I just cant say no to my friends who always want to drink, especially the ladies...

used to be like that when i was younger, right up until about 25-28 where it started to calm down.

Now I very rarely drink, don't mind having a few beers but I don't get drunk anymore. Mainly because I dont like being drunk, after waking up on too many mornings unable to remember the night before.

So I am happy to have a pint or two on a night out but have no problems just drinking a glass of water sitting in a pub. can go to many festivals and just carry a bottle of water about refilling it now and then. Saves a lot of money and not having hangovers is a godsend.

Thats not to say I don't have other vices but thats neither for the here and now.

Just don't drink. I know it's annoying when your friends keep asking you "Why?!" but you can still enjoy a night out meeting new people without alcohol.

I think you already know the answer as well Begbie. Of course you don't have to completely stop, just cut it down to 1 day a week and don't go mental when that day in the week comes.

Try cutting it out all together, no one is forcing you to drink and you will feel a hell of a lot better. Good luck man.

I'm 21 and haven't had a drink for a couple of weeks but that's mainly because alcohol has become a luxury item due to the lack of money. A few months ago I was drinking most days of the week but that's because I was a student so it was expected. :p

Just have a few days break, detox the system with a lot of water and then go out drinking again. Have a similar break every week or something.

I'm 18 and go out once a week or so with friends, just to the local to shoot some darts and have a few drinks. Don't really like going out too often, its expensive and getting really drunk is boring after a while...

Freshers week coming up soon though, my liver is going to take a hitting :(

Enjoy yourself while you’re young.

What you going to do, give up drinking and socialising so you can live an extra six months in a wheel chair in an old folks’ home?

"An alcoholic is someone you don't like who drinks as much as you do." - Dylan Thomas.

He should know, didn’t he land up in the gutter drunk as a skunk?

It's naive to think that it's going to save you a few months more in your old age.

The Channel 4 Documentary I posted earlier shows that Doctors are now seeing a record number of younger people who need Liver Transplants because of binge drinking. They won't even make it to an older age.

Surely that is him talking about himself, is it not? That's how I read it anyway.

And how come no one has mentioned the relevance to the OP's forum name and this thread's topic yet?? I opened it thinking it was a joke... :p

It's a fairly common insult that can be turned to a number of other insults as per Gore Vidal's variant "A narcissist is someone better looking than you are." and so on.

Begbie: As said if you're asking the question then it's because you've got a doubt about whether there's an issue there - in that case it would seem prudent to consider stopping or cutting back until you reach a level you are comfortable with, whether that be having a drink once a week or whether it's three nights a week instead of five. It doesn't really matter what other people do as "normal", it should be what you are happy with.

If you're unsure whether you can cut back then maybe it's worth trying to stop drinking entirely for a couple of weeks, if you can't do that then there's a good chance you've got a problem and might want to do something about it. Rocket surgery (;)) this is not.
