Drinking too much?

Now am not an alcoholic, but I seem to be drinking more than I used to or what seems normal.

Last week, I was drunk Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and had a few on Saturday. Even last night I had a drink. Now, I am not drinking on my own or anything like that. But I can't help the social side to drinking, if anyone is out I want to be there I love the whole going out and meeting new people thing.

But thinking about it, I can't remember the last weekend I was sobor. This is the norm with me and my mates, Friday hits and its straight to the pub.

Does everyone 18-25ish, do the same or do I seriously need to take a break? (It feels like I should)

Do you get the Shakes before your first Pint ?

Is there something wrong with drinking on your own. I like the taste of ales and beers and have a few on the odd occasion at home. Never more than 3 I would say.
If I then go out to the pub twice a week, am I drinking too much?

Don't listen to all the crap about alcoholism, you're either born an alcoholic or not. Have fun with what you are doing! I am doing the same! If you start feeling the need to smash back a triple vodka as soon as you wake up then maybe this is a problem!

Nothing wrong with drinking on your own! I hate all this labelling about drinking alone, if you like the taste of booze then why not. It's like saying you shouldn't kick a football about on your own or watch a movie with a pizza.

No.

I used to have 8 pints from 12.30 to 3.30 go home and then go back out at 9.30 and consume 8 pints til 12.30. that was monday to friday

on Saturday and Sunday it would be all dayer's thats solid drinking from 11 am till 12.30 midnight.

But then I'm from the North and its the culture where I'm from. Unfortunatley I now live down south in a stupid quaker town that has only 2 pubs with the scream of electric pumps in a renovated pub Your stomach swells up before you get drunk The bars are full of male slags
At 10:35 they play "Send in the Clowns" once

Meh doesn't seem to mental to me. Don't do that for years on end, but heck you are only young once so just remember you cut it down by the time you are 30 :)

Legend.

I'm unsure.

I'd say that it all depends on how much you consume during your outings...

Getting smashed four/five times a week is probably too much. If you've been doing it for years already it might be an option to slow it down to a heavy friday and drinks on another day.

Personally I'd not want to be hammered more than twice a week. Once a week is normally enough and then maybe a nice wine on on or two of the other nights.

My housemate gets massively drunk on friday and saturday and then doesn't drink all week.

My other one drinks every day just about: a few tins of beer a day and maybe one night of boozing.

I'd rather go with somewhere in between. It's nice to have wine with a nice dinner in the week. It's also nice to go out and have a good night out once a week.

It's all quite proportional and relative really.

I miss my 18-20yr old days :(

Friday Night- Heavy Session
Sat Lunch 5-6 beers over football
Sat Night- Heavy Session
Sun Lunch- Killer (pool) and heavy session
Sun Night- See who is still standing

Sounds like half the people here will need liver transplants in a few years!

Haha! I was thinkin the same...

Im sometimes really surprised at how ready and willing some people are at throwing their hard-earned money at these alcohol companies!! Money that goes down the toilet (literally) later.

Ok nothin wrong with the odd drink here and there but if ur gettin off ur face 4-5 days/week u gotta get a grip. I guess it would help to keep track of ur spending....seeing a total figure might shock you into reducing...unless of course ur loaded. In which case remember - even you have only one liver :D

I can honestly say in the last 13 weeks i've had 2 nights away from the pub. Now I dont go and get smashed every night of the weekend, but i will have 4-5 pints of bow on a weeknight, 8-10 on a weekend night, sometimes more, can never remember. I know i had 10 pints 3 nights ago.

I dont drink a drop of alcohol at home, but going to the pub has become such a habit I really need to find some alterntive activity in the evenings, being single doesnt help, but thats my fault, but i just can't seem to stay in like i used to and have huge gaming sessions. If I jotted down how many pints i drink a month, i really dread to think

Pubs really should be required to have some decent soft-drinks at a reasonable price.

Nasty fizzy drinks at prices at or above a pint of ale? Get real, it doesn't go off, it doesn't get taxed the same, and it doesn't cost as much to start with.

If I could get a pint of (soft) ginger beer for between £1 and £1.50 I'd find not drinking at the pub far far easier. All sorts of drinks they could have that are nice and don't have alcohol but all we get is re-constituted flat coke or a thimble full of over priced fruit juice drink that isn't even 100% fruit juice.

If I want a steady night these days I just drink halves, it's nicer than the soft drink option, nicer than shandy and I can just drink slower to keep in the rounds.

I'm 19, just gone through my freshers year at uni and didn't drink anything.

I don't like alcohol, don't like clubs and am pretty immune to peer pressure (which there was a lot of). I don't see why people always have to drink, although I'm looking forward to when I'm 50, and everyone my generation has liver failure, so I can say 'I told you so' ;)

Thats seriously bad for you l, I suggest you try and stop. A one night drunken binge is bad enough, but drinking at a minimum 4/5 pints a night for 13 weeks is a lot lot worse.

I know, I just worked out what i drank last night, 9 pints of strongbow, didnt go out till 9.30 got in at 1.30am up at 6.45 for work, it's become such the norm its like a smoking habit and it probably sounds so weak willed of me too

Agreed. I remember when I went through a stage of going out and not drinking. About the best thing I could get was fizzy water...

It would be nice to see some viable alternatives put out there (and some that aren't just sugar-loaded)

The one problem is that if you drink say coke or fruit juice instead, you're taking on a ton of sugar and possibly additives, rendering the health benefits less attractive. Sure, no alcohol and drunkenness. However, the amount of sugar of say a day when you have coke all day in the pub and out at night, is disgusting. Fruit juice much the same.

I'd love to suggest an alternative, such as soda stream type things where you can have a custom flavour and concentration, but I just couldn't see that happening.
