Drive just failed

I had smart error warnings a while ago but i just ignored it because i thought it was just windows 7 giving false warnings because the drives appeared fine in other tests. The drive has vanished from my computer and when trying to open any application with smart it just hangs. The disk management just hangs, lavalys everest just hangs on smart scan and hd tune does not open when you run it. I am at work at the moment and can't restart the pc and do those tests till tonight. Do you think the drive is gone for good or might i get a second chance to backup data ?

It is out of warranty as well, i did the warranty check with seatools. These drives are so primitive they barely last a few years. This drive i was using for my vms, i think it was the vms that broke it. Sometimes i had like 3 or 4 running in vmware workstation and the IO usage is realy high. But just a theory.

I got home and turned off my pc completely and then turned it back on. The drive worked and i managed to backup all the data. The drive is actually still working now. So maybe it is only a matter of time.
