Afternoon all.

I purchased an F1 to replace a dead WD drive in my PC. Chucked it in all well and good, got to installing XP, all fine.

But, what I hadn't noticed until quite a way into reinstalling all my programs is that it had named the new drive with the OS installed as F. It had taken previous letters for the floppy, a 2nd HD and the DVD drive.

So, how on earth can I get this back to being a C: drive, as a simple change drive letter change in disc manager isn't working due to the stuff installed on it.

Cheers in advance.

Lawrence.

Easiest way is to re-install Windows if you must have it as C: - it will cause you less headaches than trying to change it in the long run. Temporarily unplug any other HDs in the system while you install Windows.

PartitionMagic used to be able to do this and re-map entries to the new drive, but it is a long time since I last used it and it wasn't 100% reliable at changing everything over. No doubt there are other apps, but can't comment on how successful they will be.

But, if you're not too bothered you can always leave it as F:

Yeah I feared the re-install. No real harm in leaving it as F...the only thing it did do was install some mobo drivers to my 2nd drive, which of course was conveniently named C: :)

Will see how I get on, if it annoys me too much I will reinstall.

Thanks for the advice.
