Ok, i have 2 disks in my PC. One SATAII 230GB Seagate and the other 80GB ATA Maxtor. The Maxtor (i think) is starting to make a horrible clunk sound when i acess it or copy files from it every minute. The sounds is like when you switch your PC off and the disk switchs off. I thought it might be something to do with Vista spinning the disks down (well that might be the reason it has now started to make funny sounds) so i turned off disk sleeping.
Luckily i am able to copy files off of it onto my 230GB drive so all is not lost.
Does it sound like it is failing? Has anyone else had something similar happen to them?
SMARTS isn't coming up with anything that i know of. How do i check for messages from the disk to the OS? Is checking software likely to display any info about a dodgy motor or a hardware fault?
Cheers
