It looks like I have had a bit of an issue over the last couple of days.

Firstly one of my 3TB drives has died. It runs but windows now will not see the drive at all. Lesson learned I should have some sort of suitable back up system.

Second to this it would now appear that one of my other 3TB drives looks like its also dying, its reporting as `unknown` in crystaldiskinfo so I have removed it from my PC while I know currently I can still read the data from it at least until I can get a replacement no further damage can happen.

So, on to my question.

I understand I can purchase perhaps a 6 or 8TB drive to replace said drives but then all my data is on the 1 drive. I could buy 2x6TB or 8TB and have some parity if I raided the drives.

Can anyone recommend a drive and is it really worth paying a bit extra over the cheaper drives? The once above have lasted me a number of years and I suppose I was stupid and somewhat naive to think they would last for ever, as they were well over 30000 hours powered on which is 3.5 years if my PC was on 24/7.

Also, any recommendations for a cheap as chips backup solution that doesn't cost the earth? i.e like above but without the additional purchase of the 2nd drive?
