Hi and first post :)

Looking to put together a new build from my E6750 duo with 4890 to something along the lines of a an I52500k with a 6950. The biggest issue now seems to be drive selection

I was originally going for a 2TB WDblack solo but was persuaded to look at SSDs, and now ive been thrown another curve ball.

Original choice
OCZ Vertex 2 "25nm Edition" 80GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (OCZSSD2-2VTX80G) £129.98 (maybe not this one but an idea)
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM £65.99

A friend who is mad on computers suggest I get 2 of these and raid them http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-097-SA&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1955 and use the cash to get a 2600k but Im not convinced due to them being eco drives, would they still park and spin down as a boot drive?

After a bit more nosing I have settled on using 2x WD640Blacks in Raid0 with an F4 as a media volume. The other alternative I guess could be F3s instead.

Any feedback from anyone who has similar?

The F3's in raid will make a decent drive for bigish transfers. You won't notice much improvement for windows boot times and general windows responsiveness the tiny access time on SSD is the primary reason they are used.

Personally I think F3's in raid with a small SSD for windows would be the best option.

You mean primarily loading windows to the SSD and then any other additional software like games or programs to the raid?

Always tended to have a single drive partitioned with the C: section as the windows section with programs loaded and the other partitions for storage. Guessing times have moved on :D
