I've got a 1TB WD caviar in my server, which is throwing all sorts of errors when running chkdsk, that according to chkdsk can't be fixed. Yet running the WD data lifeguard diagnostics, it's absolutely fine, passes smart check, basic test and extended test with no problems.

Since I have the data backed up elsewhere should I format it and see if it's ok? The problem is I only have until the 15th of January to get it RMA'd, but they're not going to replace it if Lifeguard passes it are they? And if I format it and it starts to break down again...well it's a wasted purchase.

Not really sure what to do..

Sounds like a file system problem rather than a physical disk problem. If the SMART attributes don't indicate a developing problem, then I'd reformat it and see how it goes.
