Driver fault with any modem.

Hi guys,

Recently moved house so haven't got my line setup yet, so i've been using a USB 3G modem, and my iPhone using tethering.

These have been working fine, but 2 days ago both devices stopped working. They are detected when plugged in, and show up in Device Manager, but with an error:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

I've tried re-installing the driver, for both modems, reboots, all available USB ports, deleting temp files (with CCleaner).

Basically I'm out of ideas, I've no idea why it just decided to not work any more, and I cant think of anything to try and fix it :( Any ideas?

Quite weird it's affecting both modems, not just the one. (Both use different drivers).

PS. I can't system restore, I've had it disabled.

Thanks for the reply :)

Yeah, both modems auto run when connected, and the software on the machine tries to establish a connection - however i get somthing along the lines of 'unable to connect - modem fault'

The error 31 is displayed for the actual modem its self under device manager. It has the make/model of the modem, and the error i pasted above came from right-clicking the modem then selecting properties.

Any help at all or sugestions is awesome, i'd hate to have to format over somthing so silly like this!

The reason I asked about the autorun is that I've had some issues with some dongles before that had a code 31 caused by the upper/lower filter problem (pc recognises the dongles as optical drives to start with before enabling modem)

But that doesn't seem to be the case here!

What software is being used with them - is it the standard Windows stuff?

Now that you've mentioned it, the USB 3G stick has appeared as a CD drive within my computer a fair few times, but this doesn't happen all the time.

The software im using is just the standard software that comes pre-packed on the USB drive.

The software im using with the iPhone is PDAnet, which results in the same errors as 'generation 3s' USB dongle.

Both these devices work fine on another machine.

I dont have access to a computer atm, but i'll check that page u linked out later.
