Hi,

I have just reinstalled XP on a machine I purchased here about a year ago and the sound card drivers have not been installed and are shown in Device Manager as "Unknown"

I have tried numerous scanners such as "Driver Detective" etc and all of them involve a download and installationn to scan you system then ask for your credit card details to download the driver. I have even tried the Realtek site and cannot find the driver there, but I think it may be onboard sound. The description is "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" so I think that may be on the MB rather than a card. Realtek is mentioned in most of the Google searches and in some of the "scam scans" that I have been installing then uninstalling. XP cannot find the drivers either. The detail of the driver in XP are:

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0662&SUBSYS_1043837F&REV_1001\4&26DF25D7&0&0001

Can anyone help?

OK, I found the disk that came with the motherboard and installed the Nvidia drivers set that was on the disk. Still a big yellow question mark on the "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" so can anyone confirm that the sound is definitely on the motherboard.

Have you tried Driver Max? It allows you to download one driver a day for free.... I actually subscribe as it's fantastic for keeping everything up to date but the free version is perfectly suitable for the odd problem! :)
