Driver problems since upgrading to Vista x64

I have recently upgraded my pc to 4gb ram and as a result had to install x64 vista. Everything went fine except it now bluescreens all over the place or simply gives me a black screen then claiming that the nvidia drivers have stopped working etc etc.

Have tried 169.25's off nvidia site, 174.13's from Loadsa's forum thread. Old 163.75's.

Every time i try to run Hellgate Londaon it bluescreens whenever trying to enter the game. Same with windows DVD maker trying to create menus. Same with numerous other programs both 2d and 3d.

Anyone know some decent stable drivers for x64 vista? Have searched high and low and everyone reccomends different sets.

Have reset clocks back to stock and still same result. BSOD or simply no screen.

Any ideas? :(
 
Yes.

Initially Vista would not even install until i had taken 2Gb out. Had to install with 2Gb install the patch then add the other 2Gb.
 
Have you tryed running your vista 64bit install with only 2gb fitted
To check that it is not a hardware fault with your motherboard or memory ??

I'm getting the same black screen claiming that the nvidia drivers have stopped working as well.Only when playing guitar hero 3 though:mad:

I've tried various sets of drivers as well,including the one's loadsa posts,but no luck either.I'm back using 169.38s just now,they give me the black screen for a second or two,but the game recovers,dosent crash back to the desktop

Never had the problem with 4GB ram when installing Vista 64 though,i'm running 2x2GB sticks,don't know if that makes any difference

Well - you didn't HAVE TO upgrade. Vista 32-bit or XP 32-bit would have been perfectly fine, except that it would only recognise about 3GB. But I would have done exactly the same as you.
 
I have a similar problem with my Laptop.

4GB RAM & Vista 64, games occasionally crash out and black screen, but they always recover.

Is the memory a matched pair?
 
Yes im using 4x 1Gb Geil ULL. Currently back on 163.75's as they seem the most stable but still getting random blue screens and crashes :(

i thought one of the reasons for getting 64bit is to utilise the 4gig of ram, so removing 2 gig is not a solution imo, and im only saying this because i use 4gig and am upgrading to 64bit in the next few days, and if i get the same problem, then a solution in advance would be handy :D

My vista x64 system with 4GB has not crashed once in over a year of 24/7 operation. But I rarely play games. Is this is a driver issue ? Do people with both ATI and NVidia cards report it happening ?
 
I have an NVidia card in one machine and an ATI in the other, both Vista64.

The ATI system is solid as nails but the NVidia one is a bit flaky, crashing in games.
 
i've yet to see a "stable" and i mean fully stable nvidia x64 driver. their initial, and by initial i mean up till the 2900xt released, so the first 6 months of vista, x64 drivers were horrendous. i still don't think they've got it right frankly.

the vista 2gb problem i an nvidia chipset problem i think related to the chipset not being overly compatible with 64bit addressing as standard. AFAIK the problem is only supposed to be an install time problem, there is a fix for it but i think if you don't get the problem during install then its not an issue, tbh i'm not sure, not installed vista with an nvidia chipset.

Vista installed perfectly for me with 4GB on my Nvidia 650i box. (ASUS P5N-E SLI)

Still sounds to me like the NVidia graphics drivers are at fault
 
now im wondering if going from 32 to 64 is worth it tbh, ive heard a lot of good and bad things about 64bit, it would be nice to fully utilise my 4 gig of ram though, just to see how it performs:)
 
I had an issue with 4x1gb sticks of GeIL too. Wasnt a vista problem, but the ram itself failed in Memtest. They were fine on their own. Even tried in a different mobo, and had the same issue.
I like Vista x64, runs spot on now I bought 2x2gb sticks of OCZ.
