Theres one type of driver I absolutely hate.

It's the type of driver who believes the entire world wants to listen to whatever they're listening to.

Windows down, bass rattling anything within a 5 mile radius. I just don’t get it as it cant be good for one ears?!

It just really grinds my gears.

I agree, no need for it other than to attract attention, and if someone wants to attract attention in that way then it's unlikely to be the type of person I wish to be attracted to.

It can't be any good for actually listening to the music either.

Even better when various parts of the car start resonating with the bass. Nothing quite like having your numberplate farting against the rear tailgate to attract da ladyz.

When in the MX-5 I don't think you've got much choice - top down, windows down.

I'd not drive around with the windows down in the S-Class though, despite having impeccable taste in music ;)

Thats the killer right there.

When the bass sounds so poor you cant even hear the words... You just get this rough humming noise.

some people just like daftly loud systems, whats hard to understand about that? there is actually quite a lot of tech and geek involved in making them loud too, but in terms of practical uses, its about as useless as every other hobby we as men choose to take on

forget number plates

that appears to be a relatively new type of box design, but from looking at the youtube clips its freakishly efficient

I went through a phase, mostly started by my mate upgrading his ICE and selling me his old (but still very respectable) gear on the cheap.

I fitted it in my car and thoroughly enjoyed it - it was proper SQ stuff, not all bass, with big amp'd split components (separate tweeters etc) and a subwoofer in the boot simply to keep pace with the volume of the mids and highs in the front.

Worked well until I turned it up too loud right from the word go and blew up the amp - hardly used it again.

One reason that my new car I'm currently searching for must have any uprated sound option available.

It's not hard to understand, but it's stupid and more importantly very anti-social when cretins drive around residential areas with their one note bass systems cranked up.

I know someone that has a massive install and enter competitions etc. He comes across as being permanently punch drunk...

overclocking is stupid. whats the point of getting those last mhz from your cpu and sorting otu the ram timing??

Exactly, that's why I don't do it. Give me a quality sound system and a stable, reliable computer any day of the week. However, I have no problem with those that like to overclock stuff because it doesn't affect anyone else.

I've just spent a little bit of money on audio - just some components (and an amp I already had laying around). I suspect these will highlight the need for some kind of sub, but for that I suspect the answer will be One of those slimline units that'll go under a seat.

I actually have a massive double sub box with subs in the garage (they were given to me) - I did fit it to the Clio for the lols, but it fills the entire boot and is far too intrusive

I was behind a saxo at the traffic lights a few days a go and I was wondering why my pedals were vibrating. Figured out it was the base coming from the saxo in front! surely these guys are almost deaf! Probably also explains why his exhaust was really loud, to hear it over his music :)

I turn my music down a bit when I have my windows down.

If I'm driving around town, stop and start stuff, I turn it down, but keep it loud enough that I can still enjoy it.

If I'm driving elsewhere, speeds of 30+, I have it loud for three reasons, I like loud music, I appear to have terrible hearing (probably because of the first reason), and I also need it loud because my car is loud.

I do this but never in urban areas or town for the reason that annoys the OP. I don't see the problem in listening to the right type of music loudly on the motorway or country roads though.

There is a time and place for booming music and it’s for parties or gigs. Not coming out of your open window or from half a mile away. The sooner some of them go deaf the better.
