Drivers confusion

Hi all

After changing from ATI to Nvidia, I find myself confused by the drivers that Nvidia have

When I went to upgrade the drivers from the CD ones, I found a Forceware 93.x as latest version and also a 97.x.
For some reason the 97.x ones didnt work, so I used the 93.x ones

Now I hear there is a Forceware 100.x

Are there two different versions for different types, or is the Nvidia website just confusing in itself

I have a 7950GT OC, the manufacturers box says use the drivers off Nvidia website.

What happened when you tried the 97s? I've never had any problems with the latest official from NVidia.

The 100s are for VISTA & 8800s and are leaked BETAs at the moment.

It said it couldnt find any compatible hardware, and would display at 16 colors on reboot.

I do admit, this was before the reinstall when I still had ATI drivers lingering in the background

Hi,
The forceware 93.x drivers are the latest official drivers for your video card and windows xp etc.

The forceware 97.x drivers are the latest official drivers for the 8800GTX/GTS
and windows xp etc.

The forceware 100.x drivers are leaked beta drivers for windows vista and the 8800GTX/GTS you can also find hacked versions that will run on most nvidia cards.

If you are using windows xp use the official 93.x drivers, I have found them to be stable and reliable.

Don't forget to use driver cleaner to clean any remnants of the old drivers to ensure a trouble free install of the new drivers.

I hope this helps. :)

Run driver cleaner and get rid of all remains of the ATI drivers, shut down pc, instal the new vidcard, reboot, instal the new drivers. That should work ok. You can even try doing all that in safemode, I didn't meself when I went from ati to nvidia, but I cleaned out the ati drivers first using driver cleaner.

Hah! beat me to it :p
