"July 29th 2009 - Please note that Drivers Republic is no longer associated with Chris Harris, Richard Meaden, Jethro Bovingdon or Neil Carey. Thanks to our supporting members over the past eighteen months. If you'd like to be kept informed of what the team do next, send your e address to [email protected]. Drivers Republic (also referred to as “DR”) is composed of a digital automotive magazine and a niche social networking website for drivers. The title is privately owned and managed by British-based NewMedia Republic Limited, which in turn is owned by its founding partners and a group of private investors."

Taken from their Wikipedia page. It would seem change is in the air once more in the world of motoring journels. Wonder if my membership stickers will fetch much on eBay :D

Wrong time to be a new media site with a difficult to navigate format and though this is of course easy to say after the event I did question how it would self fund itself via advertising. I don't know the full details but seems that people have decided to go in differing directions which is a shame as I think some of their content was excellent and well delivered.....and some of it less so. I was a paid up member to show support but it never really meant anything and didn't give me anything of value other than some stickers and a card with my name on. I knew a couple of the chaps behind it so hope they keep it going, but much of its attraction was the writing talent and if that has now gone I can't see it surviving in its current format.

I really enjoyed their articles and Chris Harris' commentary on the videos was always interesting. It's a shame but hopefully they will all continue writing in some compacity.

agreed, chris harris' autocar videos were excellent. Equally so his stuff for DR

look forward to seeing what he gets up to next.

I cut it from Wiki today and now it's gone, but that is Wiki for you. However it does seem fact that there are changes a foot as the site hasn't changed for much over a week now.

Someone on another forum had heard some whisters also, so it's more than likely the case given the current climate and niche subject.
