I'm looking to get some gates or even make them myself for our driveway... As I have all ready gone for a cast iron wall gate ( plz see pics) will it look abit daft me having wooden gates?

My gap between the posts is 155.5 inches and the pillor to top brick is 54 inches... Trying to find anything this size is hard to find, hence why I was thinking of making them (wooden)

Only getting it done so 2 year old can play out in the summer

Thanks

I don't think it will look daft with wooden gates but I would say, not really an ideal play area for a 2 year old, being hard standing and all.
Get out and take them to the park.
Save yourself a few quid and you and your child will be happier for it.

Iron gates would go better with the railings . Are you planning to do a single one across? Worth thinking of if it is two gates meeting in the middle whether the right hand one (as seen from the pic) would be a pain for parking a car on there

I'd go for a wooden farm style gate, will improve the look of driveway, and give a little security VS being able to just stroll up drive, and also better area should kid want to play out.

Wooden gates for me wouldn't look right next to the railings. I wouldn't bother with any non-automated gate though they will just annoy you. Why would your two year old be playing on your drive surely that isn't your only garden?

Y all the slating about where his kid plays. Maybe the location means the suns out the front most of the day and better area for sitting etc.

Remove the railing and do them wooden instead. Similar to this. At the same time you could consider then raising the partion fencing between you and the neighbour to the same height as the wall fencing . Will look nicer and add property value/appeal

Is this yours? I am interested in a style similar but its not something I could do myself due to the brickwork.

No mine just a quick google search. it honestly wouldn't be the hardest to do. just build a box frame, with a centre baton to give additional fixing points for fencing boards. Even get a joiner to do the framework. and the individual fen e pannels are easy to space if you can use a coredless drill. 2-/3 screws each to secure

It was more the brickwork side of it was interested in a ball park figure of how much this costed. Would need a pro in to build the wall. The fence/timber part I could manage myself.

Ah right with you now. Was thinking the budget route. Your probably taking £1000+ for materials and labour. Best is just get a few general builders/brickies out to get quotes then play them off eachother for best price
