Hi All

I've had my S2000 for around a month now and I now want to improve my driving skills. Can anyone recommend a course / person? I've heard of Ride Drive, Don Palmer and Andy Walsh.

What sort of driving skills? If you're looking to become a better road user, you can't go too far wrong with some skidpan time.

IAM membership would be worth considering

I hope you're joking, I tried a few of those lessons, what I silly way of driving.

I was being taught to enter round abouts in whatever gear I was crusing at then only at the last minute before entering to select the correct gear.
What ever happened to engine braking or being in the correct gear ready to go....

The problem is the guidelines arent as fixed as other places, so its open to a lot of interpretation by the instructor.

What I was taught wasn't what you describe. I was taught to anticipate the road conditions based on visibility, what other cars ahead are doing etc etc and prepare the speed and gear for a roundabout in advance

I can't believe people need to be taught on how to drive like that...

Is it a bourbon myth that the IAM says "when overtaking do not break the speed limit"?

I may open myself to... responses, but... well, hi.

It is, completely.

Everyone thinks its about re-inforcing the highway code to the letter even more so than a standard driving test, but its really not at all. Its about improving your driving safety and overall driving style - overtaking too slowly would be downright dangerous in some occasions.

They would have course discourage overtaking a car doing 55mph in a 60 limit for that reason.

You'll learn a lot from a Car Limits day with Walshy. There are some videos on my site. And if you can get in on a day with Hondas-On-Track or Lotus, they're dirt cheap too. In fact, HOT are running a day there later this month...
