Driving drama

No results :)

Wasn't really expecting anything to come of a picture, it's just the first time I've ever seen someone so filled with rage that they need to take a picture. Usually you get a few gestures or a beep, but I've never seen this before.

No matter how many years some people spend behind the wheel, they can't understand the unwritted rule of merging 1 at a time from each lane. It's not like that 1 extra car space will dramatically change their journey, but they'll refuse to give it up.

My pet peave is when it's your turn and someone holds back (keeping the correct them, us, them sequence), leaves a big gap which you think is nice of them, so you indicate and start to move into it, only to have them roar forward closing the gap and then beep/gesticulate at you. It's almost as if they've purposely tried to set up the situation, bait you and then they feel "justified" at being able to shout at someone.

As much as you hate the ones who try and force past you and then force their way in ahead of you?

Can you not see how one causes the other? If it wasn't for people enforcing this pathetic "I'm not going to let people merge" attitude, then no one would need to "forcel their way in because there would be plenty of space between cars as they merged.

Can you reread the post you quoted?
I let people merge when it's their turn... but not the knob who comes speeding up from three cars further back and then tries to force his way in on top, usually because there's no more road left, but occasionally by overtaking the guy I'm in the process of letting in!
So much for the 'zipper' idea...

*** that for a game of soldiers, when you're merging on a bike... Might as well not exist!!

Fair enough. But you didn't say that in your original post, it came across like you don't let anyone merge who comes up beside you because it annoys you.

The thing is, even if you do try and head off someone pushing their luck and taking the mick a bit you are still no better off and you might end up risking a collision. Better to swallow your pride, hang back and let them get on with it while maintaining a nice smooth speed in my opinion.

That's exactly what I mean by people who force their way past you first and then try and push in....

And the next one and the next one and the next one and the next one and the next one... That is how it goes sometimes. More than once I've seen someone come to a complete stop because the string of Audis and BMWs in the right lane saw that they're a 'waygiver' and forced their way in. One even clipped the stopped car.
There are times when you really do need to defend your space, else the pricks out there will just rip you apart and you'll likely end up in/causing the accident.

I agree, a bit of defensive driving helps to prevent people from taking the pee.
