Driving experience days?

So would you pay £534 an hour to drive one?

The point is the GTR is a seriously quick car, but in a years time you wouldn't have to be 'rich' to own one. You could get a bank loan, drive it for a year, sell the car and have probably not lost massive amounts of money.

When will you ever get the chance to do that with a Ferrari or Lamborghini? If people wanted one they could afford a GTR, the same way people afford £20k 335i's and £25k Boxsters. Chances are you will never come within 1/10th of being able to own the current Ferrari, but you could with the GTR.

Get a £32k 355 then? Thats the Ferrari box ticked with the same sort of cash.

Of course I wouldn't pay that, the fact its on a track and not for hire on road does change things aswell. I enjoyed my red letter Ferrari 360 day bought as a gift though, i did'nt start whining about value for money based on the hourly rate, a low 'hourly rate' requires huge investment... ie. buying the car.

I only posted to add some context... the fact that not everyone could afford a new mondeo so the comparison to a Mondeo price is pretty irrelevant.

My dream car is a 911 996 GT3.... oh look at me im a *****.

If you'd said, given me £89 pounds and stood in line for 30 minutes, I'd have let you do 4 laps of Curborough in mine, at below 5000rpm and me shouting brake brake brake at each turn....and grabbing the wheel and pointing where you need to go....even though you know. Though I would have needed to be indifferent and could not be seen talking to a '*****' in public.

You've owned a GT3 so yes your idea of a dream car will be slightly different.

Valid and true of course, but I really don't think they are good value days as £89 to drive a car for 10 minutes slower than you could on most test drives for free is not really good value in anyones book.

Subjective call at the end of the day.

Sounds like a good weekend

By large all these days are a bit crummy anyway, just seems odd that people are critising the choice of the day being a GTR. My 360 red letter at Rockingham was pretty good with som old boy looking driver.

'Have you ever driven a car with paddles'
'Yes a Jaguar last week'
'Oh which one'
'XKR-S'
'you must work at Jag?'
'Yes'
'Im just next door, im a test driver for Aston Martin, lets see how this car compares then!'

Revving out in 3rd gear and pushing pretty hard.... was only 4 laps though! :( Glad my parents paid for it!

Car is nothing to do with it, replace the car with any car and I don't think it's great value based on what I know of these days and what you are and are not allowed to do.

True, yet the thread has focused on car selection rather than doing the actual day.

no interest,

i personally cant have any fun in a car i have never driven for 10 mins.

even an hour is probably not enough for me, so i would never bother, id put the money to a car modification of what i already have

For £200 you could fly from Glasgow to Munich and spend an hour in a BMW M5 or 2 hours in a BMW M3 (Infact depending on the flight prices you could potentially get the M3 for the entire day - it's about £90 for a day).

Thats how bad value these supercar days are, especially if you use them to drive a Nissan.

I have no desire to drive a BMW M3 nor a BMW M5. So what a hugely irrelevant and stupid post that was. I'd much rather pay £178 to have 2 sessions in a GTR than go to Germany to drive some BMW that I don't really desire 1/10 the amount I desire a GTR.

The airfield was littered with Ferraris, Lambos, R8's, Aston's. If you had put all the keys infront of me on a table, I'd pick up the GTR keys every time. It's my dream car, whether you approve or not, I couldn't really care.

Sorry, forgive me for suggesting a similarly priced alternative way to drive a 400bhp or 560bhp car for much longer unaccompanied and see a nice city at the same time

I shall keep my stupidity to myself next time

Have fun driving a Nissan at 60mph around some cones on some wet tarmac with a bloke beside you whinging about going too fast. You will experience almost none of the things that make the GT-R so great in such a scenario.

My 'idea' was more about highlighting what shockingly poor value these 'experiences' are than anything else - they play on people like you who want to experience a 'dream car' so desperately they'll pay up despite the massive limitations.

They are complete rubbish.

To get a good experience you really do have to folk out, Palmer is something like £800 a day and is just about the best experience you will get of driving some fast cars quick for the money, Is it good value for money? Only the person fronting the bill can really decide on that.

I'd not bother with the air field days though.

As I said, the car is an irrelevance, the 'value' of the day to most sane people without blinkers on and a fetish for GTR's or any other car, is poor. Fox's example was not about telling you a BMW is better, it was provided as an example of value. We get you like the GTR and good for you, passion is a good thing, but value is another thing. With very little effort and zero cost you could drive a GTR I suspect.

I think you have missed something.

1. I have already done my experience day, it was brilliant.

2. I was never told to slow down, the bloke beside me actually pushed me to go harder.

3. The tarmac was dry

4. Why do you keep saying Nissan? Are you trying to belittle what is a renowned very very good car? At least it doesn't have fake cabin noise to imitate the engine *cough M5* *cough*

What's the secret? I don't mind education in how to do the same thing cheaper. But to come up with an argument to drive another car, which I have no desire over, rather than drive a car of my dreams is stupid IMHO.

I wouldn't waste my time flying to Germany to sit in an M3 nor an M5. But I'd happily let someone pay for me to drive a GTR round a track for 4 laps...
