Trying to find a driving experience day that actually lasts for most of the day. Most places I've looked at seem to last up to about 2 hours. Does anyone know of any good driving experiance days in the south for about £200 each?

Doesnt have to be a Ferrari, could be tanks, rally driving, just anything thats going to be a good laugh and remembered

Your having a laugh for 200 quid. 200 quid will get you a couple of hours sharing with a group of people.

You'd get half a day in an AMG for around £400 at Brooklands, based on that you'd probably get a full day in a Fiat Punto for £200.

Save up more and do a proper day you won't regret and remember for the rest of your life - http://www.palmersport.com

I know people that have gone there as it happens. £200 is just a figure I put as a bench mark. The cash will be coming from a yearly bonus, but having a young family and debts thought it probably best to not throw £600+ at it for example.

I've got a real issue with those types of 'experience' days. The cars are limited, often the better models aren't available or being serviced so you end up with an M3 or similar, at best.

I did a CAT driver training day in my own car and and that was much more fun and ended up driving a Caterham for a bit which was an absolute hoot. Ok it was in an Evo at the time but I'd do it in any car as the point isn't going fast but I didn’t feel it was a lesser experience than a track day... in fact I enjoyed it much more!

Put it this way, if you owned a fleet of supercars, would you let Joe Public rag the cr@p out of them without limiting them at least?

Better to put on some expensive clothes and pop to your local Porsche dealer and wangle a test drive!

A lot of the experience days are just pictures of you in a fancy exotic car and they let you coast it around a track/airfield.
Go for Palmersport, they let you have fun apparently.

my Mrs bought me one for my birthday, when they state 2 hours it means allow for 2 hours of waiting around for a 20-30 minute go in a car, she was devastated when she realised how long I actually got in the car.

if you want to do one, spend a lot more money

I got a full day one for a present once 5 different cars, it was basically about 5mins (2 laps) in each car rest of day waiting,, fun though got to drive a lambo, Ferrari, Aston martin, r8 and something else but I forgot.

5 mins x 5 cars = 25 mins, not full day :p

But I get why there is a lot of down time... I just think the down time would be better if you were with a group of friends as opposed to going on your own.

Have you thought about a trackday in your own (or hire ;)) car? It would probably work out cheaper. When I went to Castle Coombe last year the marshals would show you around a couple of laps for a donation (think I gave them £30 or £40). It was very useful tuition and then I went out on my own (in a 19 year V6 old car with almost no brakes!). So much fun.

EDIT: Obviously ie means you won't be in a tank or a Ferrari but the impression I get is that it would be more fun overall.

Sell the wife or one of your kids and go to Palmersport. Its ace.

Have a look at this thread by Housey about Phil Price Rally School. It's only £99 over your initial budget and appears to be utterly awesome and is the sort of driving day I'd want to do if I were after an experience day.
