Amazon want me to come in for an interview ,

Working hours are 8 am to 10pm although I assume if I deliver my load earlier (who knows how much 150 probably) id still get the daily rate

£115 a day 6 days a week ( total £690

Weekly van rental £210 (down to £480

Then after tax and contributions down to £389

I was temping and delivering 50 to 80 parcels a day working 9 hours for £360

Where as Amazon you be working upto 15 hours a day 6 days a week for £389

Essentially there offering £5.30 an hour

And probably have an excess on the van insurance too .

Not that I have any interest in that line of work but the 6 days a week gets me - if I was driving around all day for 8+ hours I'd be wanting atleast 2 days off.

dont do it, its a joke, they say you have to try within a ten house radious if no ones in, then if that fails you have to call back later. They don't like you taking parcels back for no reason. you need be onsite for 7 then line up and they call you round when load arrives, so sometimes your not loaded till after 9.

at interview they say once your done your finished, but in reality they ask you to go help someone who has loads on and pay no extra.
also at interview there is no mention if you have accident inn van you have to pay damage for that van every week out your wage.. also there is no mention if you leave keys in van they fine you £50 first time £100 second etc.

for me it was a joke and personally you could go use your own car for hermes at 70p per parcel then know when your done your done.
if you did do the amazon think get your own van and insurance.
oh yeah they only pay you back 25p a mile in fuel and that is from first delivery not your travel to yard, but a lot off guys added this on at end

anyway, also the maps on pda was a pain sometimes a house was no where near it took you.

good luck if you need anymore info message me be glad to help

Could you not just work in a min wage supermarket job and not have all the hassle? Seems a pretty grim existence tbh

Many retailers now operate their own home delivery service and mostly pay above minimum wage (though not much) and often have openings as they tend to get fairly high turnover of drivers as a good number once they are familiar with the job go on to somewhere like DPD, etc. if you are happy with a so-so wage they are a lot less stressful than the likes of Amazon but obviously not as good earning potential.

Why are people prepared to "work" 90 hours a week for £5 an hour and no overtime pay? No wonder wages don't go up.

my mate isn't smart at all and will take anything, he uses the van to make a lot of money as well. They provide you with a van even though you have to pay for it you can make 2x your wage with a van easy. people always want stuff moving on Facebook etc

8am until 10pm is illegal under GB domestic driving rules. Employed is 10 hrs driving in an 11 hr shift. self employed is 11 hours of duty time.

Yes insurance is included in the van rental but, they don't tell you there is an excess on the insurance which you have to pay upto a few thousand pound

With a van it’s like you’ve got an MBA, but you’ve also got a ******* van.

Problem is that couriers are not covered under those rules.....well they are not enforced anyway. I'd also mention that you can't work 6 days a week every week because it's illegal

i run a specialist courier company and we are running under those rules. We keep records of hours worked. If there was a serious accident and it was found that the driver had not had adequate rest or was over his hours we'd be right in it.

They might not be enforced like Tacho's but they can check if they need to.
