I'm not into driving games at all, but my wife would like one for the Wii for her to play. I have no idea what ones are good or not, not being into them, so can anyone recommend anything?

As I understand it our choices at the moment are;

Excite Truck
GT Pro Series
NFS Carbon
Monster 4x4
Cars The Movie (?)

And Driver Parallel Lines looks like a March release.

Anyone who's into driving games recommend anything?

EDIT - sure this has been discussed, but is Mario Kart scheduled for the Wii?

I haven't played any of them but I hear that Excite Truck is the best one followed by NFS: Carbon.

Mario Kart will definitely appear but it hasn't been announced as of yet.

Do you think they'll release a Wii-ified version or just release it on the VC? Using the Wiimote to not just steer but also throw weapons would be great :D

Excite Truck is a great game, makes me want a Wii, feel free to donate :p Carbon is fairly difficult and isn't as much pick-up-and-play never played the Wii version though.

I'd go with Excite Truck as its easy to pick up and play. NFS is probably the best of the other regular driving games. Theres also Mario Kart 64 on the VC if you can't wait for whenever the Wii version will be announced.

I'd bet my life a proper wii Mario kart will come out it's a certainty the only shock is it hasn't already been announced!

By the end of 2007 Mario Kart wii will have been at least announced I'd be almost certain of it, it's the next big Nintendo franchise after Mario and Zelda.

I can only re-iterate much of what's been said here tbh. I own both Need For Speed Carbon and Excite Truck - the others are supposed to be absolute pap.

NFS:C is enjoyable, has a multitude (5) of control options to suit (all of which work quite well IMO - something that was slated in the Official Nintendo mag  ). There's plenty to do, missing some of the good aspects of NFS:U2 - if you're a fan of the series though it's essential. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as did my fiancée's brother.

Excite Truck I picked up for £29 at a supermarket. It's fantastic, so much fun. You kinda forget it's a driving game as it's totally unrealistic and mad, but it's the best, pure unadulterated fun I've had on the Wii since the initial 'OMG I swung and it swung' fun of Wii Sports. It doesn't seem hugely deep in terms of tracks, but there's plenty of opportunity to replay it to get better grades - which you just want to do. Really, really impressed.

I'd recommend both.

In terms of Virtual Console or Gamecube, there's a fair bit of choice. You've got the excellent Mario Kart 64 for about £7 off the Shop, and F-Zero GX, Mario Kart Double Dash and Burnout that stand out on the GC, that I can recommend from experience.
