Alright peeps? I'm looking into getting driving lessons. I have no experience at all with driving. My question is, how many lessons did you take before passing?

It varies a lot. Some people have one hour a week, some have two, some may have use of a car to practice in as well. Obviously people learn and develop at different speeds as well.

I had one hour a week with an instructor and had about 30-35 lessons.

I had one hour lessons, once a week, and had 24 hours of instruction in total before my first test. I failed my first test, had two hours of instruction before my second test, which I then passed. I also had another car in which I could practice.

BIG help if you rent out a car with a parent or friend that's a good driver, I done 6 hours of that (3x2hours) then I'm into my proper lessons, 2 hours a week, bought a block of 10hours (2hoursx5) and I'm into my next lot, nearing driving test, theory on monday.

i've done 28hrs so far, 2 per week and have my test on the 29th april. it really helps if you can get your parents to take you out, even to a car park for parking/reverse cornering ect.

How on earth do you rent a car with a provisional driving licence?

10 one hour lessons and passed first go this is 7 years ago and i now they have tightened it up, but friends of mine have done it in less time driving on a private farm help us with our gears and control

I had 12 lessons of 1 hr per week. The hour before the exam i had my final lesson.
The days before the theory test. :D

Had a 2 hour lesson once a week for about 6 months .Passed my test first time.Very little other driving experience during the time i was learning.
No silly theory in my day:D
Had my driving instructor fall asleep in the car once too:eek:,she must have had confidence in me lol

8.5 hours of lessons
20 hours total in a car

Real experience was doing a 400 mile journey with my dad after I passed to do night/motorway driving and different conditions rather than just the "test" routes!

Can't remember, but you can't guess how many you will need based on other's experiences. Some will give you the "I did it in 2 lessons, I'm pro, if you take longer you suckz", which is obviously BS. It will take as long as it takes for you and your instructor to be confident of passing.

The one bit of common advice though is to try and avoid the "brand" driving schools - The AA, BSM, etc etc etc. A more local, private instructor is normally a far more pleasant learning experience.

12 one hour sessions and passed first time about 25 years ago :), i passed my bike test first though which probably helped.

I was having a single 2 hour lesson per week, probably had about 35-40 hours total with no previous experience of driving before i passed my test. It really does vary though, i remember my instructor saying he's had people who have passed first time after 10 hours and people who have had 100+ hours and are still nowhere near test standard. It just depends how quickly you pick it up i suppose.

I passed in 1 week from my first lesson to my test.

I did an intensive course. 18 hours in 1 week and 2 hours for test time.
