When driving, who carries theirs with them and who leaves it at home?

what are advantages/disadvantages to your reason.

Due to my young age and likely hood to get pulled over for no reason i keep mine on me to save the hassle of going to the station later. However both of my parents keep theirs in the house.

I always carry the card in my wallet, and the paper bit stays in my glove compartment.

But then we have more than enough police checkpoints over here.

lives in my wallet, it's hardly a burden to carry around is it. No reason to carry the counterpart though, keep it safely at home.

i'm sure i've read somewhere it's a legal requirement to carry it with you at all times, the pink card .

mines just in my wallet, it'd get lost at my house.

definitely not! If a policeman requests it and you don't have it, you have 7 days to show it at a police station! had to learn that for the theory test!

I've read before that it is better to not have any ID with you as it can assist you later should you want to make the prosecution prove it was really you that was stopped. For instance, if the CPS fail to call a police office to identify you in person at court then the case can collapse if the CPS can introduce no evidence that you were the person who was stopped.

Not strictly correct, it IS a legal requirement to carry it but it is also a valid defence to produce it at a Police station within 7 days.

i keep mine in my wallet

only time it comes out is to show off mainly =p

as for the paper bit... that's in the safe at home ;)

Surely carrying the pink card without the paper counterpart is pointless? As one isn't valid without the other.

I leave both parts at home.

Hehe I was going to comment on the spelling of 'licence' but I thought that was perhaps being to pedantic but it looks like a don had the same thought! :p . Oh and I carry mine around with me, (the card anyway) and leave my paper at home, but not at the moment cos they took my card licence to add the bike licence to it :D

I carry mine:

Advantage: Use it as ID.

Disadvantage: Some policeman officers consider a 7 day wonder punishment enough sometimes, and not having your licence means you can be given one.

You'll probably find that your parents only have the paper licence (who cares how its spelt, as long as people know what you mean :P) which is why they leave it at home. Carrying around that piece of paper may just seem like a bit of a hassle, whereas the card can just fit next to your other cards in your wallet (as mine is at the moment).

I'm 24 but I still get IDed regularly as I have a young face, and since I don't have any other form of ID other than my passport I keep my licence on me. That will most likely be true for most 18-20 year olds as well.
