maybe its my long legs i couldnt get my roght leg te right way round and to fit under the steering wheel

and i couldnt push jus 1 pedal at a time with my foot in that position....

maybe need a car with an adjustable steering wheel

also

if you happen to have lots of money at our fingertips, forget bliping the accelerator and just change down....id look at the prices of new clutches first tho

Usually on a friday after college. So much fun. Especially if you have someone in the car who is NO SWEARING themselves thinking I am a "rubbish" driver. After a while they relax though

I'll say you'll have an accident in the next 6 months, easily.

You sound a lot like a guy in my school with his bmw 316.

Always wheel spinning and going "ZOMG DID YOU SEE THAT DRIFT!!1"
Then you say he's a rubbish driver, he goes, "I just know how to get the power down."

Then he crashed. :o

Textbook really,

Young - 17
New Driver
Likes power and show off with it
Wants a powerful car
Wants to drive fast
Thinks he's a good driver (no one is with a few months of driving, you are not
Michael Schumacher)

Probably because, judging from what you've posted here, you are! :p:D

You're only 17 once :p but really I hope you're insured mate...

course im insured :S

believe it or not im not a showoff.

FFS I hang around oCUk!

Its just a little bit of fun.

I know the dangers of the road. My friend was killed in a car accident so I know the responsibiliies associated with driving a 1 ton killing machine.

AND PLEASE STOP THE MORALIZING :p

Out of interest what car do you have?

When wanting to accelerate quickly and change gear, as long as your bite isnt on the floor, the clutch pedal shouldnt touch the floor of the car, just wants to go just far enough below the bite of the clutch. In my Focus it meant I only half pressed down the clutch pedal, meant my clutch was only down for a fraction of a second. Whereas in the Dolomite the bite is right at the floor, so its pedal all the way down in that thing.

You need to bleed your clutch then, or get some new friction material in there! Should be in the top 2 inches (previous working ones were, anyway!)

That to me Lewis? It had a new clutch about 6000 miles ago so friction material should be ok. Already bled the clutch a few times as I thought the same. Come on msn if you see this please!

Edit - Mad Mart looks like he has the same position as mine, I also seem to remember the Sprint engined 1500 was low.

Also I think my slave cylinder mount might be slightly loose, might have a look at tightening it. Not sure how yet though!

Oh my uncle has just offered me a Triumph Spitfire 1300.

Are these any good. Look a bit old :P

A lot of fun from what I have heard. Yes they are old so you have to expect different things with it. They certainly feel fast for what speed you are doing.

I wont mock it. I respect your opinions.

*looks at hotwiring manual*

Ill give some of these cars a go :D

You've got no chance my friend, they have the 4 digit keypad imobiliser lol :p

They are quite nippy considering it's a 1.1. Body roll like mad though, all part of the fun I suppose :)

Hello all. I have been hearing different stuff about changing gears.

Im a new driver myself so for me changing gears is stick clutch down and shift and put foot down on acceleator.

I have heard of a different way of changing gears. (obviously the same principle), They said it was a racing way. Cant remember what it was but it had something about heel? toe ball??

Sorry I cant remember, but what im basically asking is. Is there any way to speed up gear changes.

P.s How much life do wheelspins take of your tyres? Say if you did it like once a week at a junction. Slam accelerator down, have the tyres spin for couple of secs before shooting of. Just wondering :o

Strange! Whats the rush? If you do it properly you can get max acceleration out of the car by timing your gear changes properly and making fulkl use of the power available from the engine. 'Speeding' up the gear change by trying to shift the gear lever rapidly is more likley to cause more problems than it solves. You can miss the slot or even get the wrong gear, try for 1st as 70 :D

My pupils often surprise following drivers when they make rapid, but safe, progress away from the lights etc. No wheelspins or such but just good old fashioned driver skills. I tell them all to change gear normally at the right time and you'd be surprised how rapidly they can get through the gears.

very good advice above. p.s burnouts make you look stupid unless you have a proper performance car.

i tend to never miss a gear as experience tells you where they are. and you dont need to put the clutch down further than you need to.
