Just got back from a short journey to give someone a lift... I was in a slight hurry, and already bare footed, so decided against bothering to put shoes on.

I've done it a few times recently, and on my way back I thought about how much more 'feel' you have of the car without wearing shoes... In many respects I prefer it, but I'm sure many people who have tried would agree that your feel feel a bit vulnerable?

I suppose this thread is to raise awareness :p

and of course I would love to here about anyone else's experiences?

I remember someone on here posted a video of him driving his car (on youtube), as it happens he had no shoes on.
Some perv them messaged him on youtube asking for more videos because he likes seeing a car driven with no shoes

Just buy a pair of Adidas Adi racer trainers, and pretend your an F1 driver !
I like to left foot break in mine !

That was Lashouts feet IIRC :p (No i want the perv, i just remember the car that was being driven)

I drive bare footed, even though its illigle down here.

I dont really do it for feel, im just lazy sometimes :p

I also use my big toe push in the pedalinstead of my whole foot :p

Mr "Foot Fetish" Lashout_UK I believe :D

I've only driven bare footed once and I didn't even intend to take the car out.

Just went outside to do something under the bonnet and decided to take it for a test run.

It felt very weird for a few minutes but after I'd got used to it I was amazed just how much better it felt.

Loads more feel through the pedals, it felt excellent. Doubt I'd do it very often though.

Spoke to a fireman once who was of the opinion that driving without shoes or as many do with sandles makes you more likely to slip off the pedals and makes your feet much more vulnerable to injury in an accident.

He said he's seen some pretty mangle feet in his time. Personally I wouldn't. Don't like the feel.

Best shoes I have for driving are the Addidas ones with goodyear written on them and the little bits of carbon. Feels great driving in them. Got some childs size 5s for the nipper too :)

I do it a lot, I've large feet, without shoes theres less chance of me catching one of the other pedals accidently. Generally, if i'm driving on my own, I just kick the shoes off and go. :p That sounds so feminine though doesnt it. :o

I do prefer it to without shoes tbh, you can get your foot in a more comfy angle, feel the car a bit better too.

Isn't it illegal to drive without shoes? I could have sworn I read that it is.
No, thats just one of those urban myths that gets kicked about. I think...

I hope its legal anyway, as in my case, when using the accelerator I might accidently clip the brake with my shoe, whereas shoeless I wouldnt.

It is down here so who knows, you probably have stricter saftey rules then us anyway.
Its also illigle to drive in the following.

Sandles
Thongs
High heels

But its not illigle(that i know of) to drive in Granpa Slippers.

Which is what i do :D

How many rally or F1 drivers do you see drive bearfoot? I think it's just overrated, I have no problem driving in any shoes. I prefer my cat boots as I have worn them for years! It's a bit like using a handbrake to go round a corner, it looks flashy but doesn't normally get you round any faster. If you want to be a good driver you have to be able to left foot brake, if not you will never be outstanding. If you like it bear foot buy some proper racing shoes, very good for pedal feel.

come to think of it I'm sure i remember reading in the driving theory book, about wearing correct foot ware for driving

although I don't think it's a prosecutable offence?

edit: A bit like when I did my CBT.. They recommended you to wear boots while riding, although it's not a legal requirement.
