Driving shoe'less

I had a similar feeling when I drove for the first time in my school shoes. The sole was totally worn down, so it was very close to being bare footed. Feels like you have less control at first, but as after a few minutes to realise you probably have more control.

What happens if you need to brake hard, stamp on the pedal, but there is something sharp on there - say a bit of a stone. Your reflex reaction would be to remove pressure...

Was going to mention this, saw that too, guy wasn't wearing any shoes when they pulled him, so he got booked for it. - I guess it's because it's not just endagering yourself, but also oter road users....if yout foot slps off the pedals.

so he wasn't done for driving on a provisional license and not using a seatbelt then, they mentioned he was driving bare foot as he said "i took my belt off as i took my shoes off and was relaxing" they did not "do" him for his bare feet at all!
they mentioned it and made a joke on it as it was unusual and thats all.........

On a trackday - they made anyone who had Size 8 feet or above (most guys) drive the Ferarri 308 with their right shoe off as the brake and pedal are v.close together (designed for italian men with size 5 shoes - not big trainers). That felt weird.

I drive in my socks if I'm doing a long motorway stint, just because it helps with circulation. Apart from that, I think there are more downsides than up in any other situation.

I don't know if it's illegal or not, and I can't say I've ever felt under less control when driving with nekkid feet.

But aircon on bare feet on hot day = - especially if they've been sweating in shoes at work for most of the day.

I have a pair of trainers that offer NO grip whatsoever on pedals when there's more than about 2% humidity in the air. Don't drive in them, mind.

They did, it was mentioned he was charged for it in the recap at the end.

The problem I have with driving shoeless is that the pivot point on my heel changes quite considerably. I usually have either trainers on or Cat boots which have a fairly thick sole to them so I actually have to change the position of the seat to get a similar feel if I have no shoes on. I dont care for it much.

But does going bare foot impede your ability to control the car?

Imo in the dry, driving bare foot is arguably safer due to having more feel for the throttle/brakes/clutch
Nope. More difficult emergency stops and think if you got a stone stuck to the sole of your foot. You go for the brake and feel the stone. Whats your immediate reaction? To take your foot off the brake...

Driving barefoot is pretty stupid IMO.

Pretty much my opinon on it TBH, Once had a pupil turn up for a lesson in flip flops and told her she was not driving my car in those. She though it would be ok to drive barefoot. Took a strop when I again said no lol.

I warn them all in advance to wear appropriate clothing etc so why do they sometimes just not listen? :D

i used to always drive in barefoot or just socks as i used to wear skateboard shoes and size 11/12 they are massive. a mx5 has little pedals so it would have been dangerous for me to wear them as i would press all the pedals with one foot..

i now wear a lot of converse which are just about skinny enough to cope with close pedals..

ive been stopped a fair few times by the old bill and always got out the car bare foot and they have never even battered an eye lid.

dude

Dont you're police have that law where they can use it for almost anything they want if you are driving?

I read someting about it in Will Gills ASBO thread

I think they give you a section 69 if they can't actually pinpoint any "crime" on you.

I've had one before for booting it into a NSL country road. I didn't actually speed so I got the 69 treatment!
