Hey guys, looking to get into Driving sim racing and nvidia surround,

Have decided to get the wheel stand pro to start,
but having trouble choosing everything else.
Looking at the fanatec GT2 or GT3 RS wheel but really dont know the difference,
the TH8RS Shifter,
and the Fanatec V2 pedals,

need to look into a gear shifter peice like the F1 style, with lights to change gear, havent a clue where to look for one, and something like a rev counter either dial or screen (like ones on iphone ive seen) as well,

Any ideas on this guys??

Get a Fanatec Clubsport Wheel Base + The Formula Rim + The Clubsport v2 Pedals = Mint Setup with everything you require.

Then get iracing and never play any other driving sim again (or at least until assetto corsa comes out)

Im not made of money haha, just want to ease into the Racing sim games, Iracing looks awesome, just need opinions on cheaper items!!

Very sound advice.

I've been on and off with my racing since getting a G25...sometimes I'll play several hours a day and sometimes I'll barely play an hour a week. It's all about the games you want to play, iRacing is great if you have the money and time but unless you are fairly dedicated you won't get your monies worth out of your subscription.

Question is...What games do you intend to play and really how much use do you feel you'd get from it? Personally I am glad I didn't go spending more on a wheel, it's spent more time collecting dust than in use (Which I never thought would happen).

Im going to play most of my racing games with it, Forza (IF i go for the GT2), Burnout, F1, Dirt, etc etc, and im a pretty avid gamer, being a student has its perks of abit of free time!!

regarding the expensive stuff, I dont think id buy it new anyway, and the Fanatec Porsche wheel seemed a good compromise,

Im looking into nvidia surround and love the three screens and racing seems to be the best use of it!

So you are looking to buy 'Sim' equipment for arcade physics based games? On that basis I'd not recommend anything above a DFGT, you honestly won't be gaining anything if those are the games you intend to play.

they are the current games i own, but Iracing seems appealing, what other sims are available?

Race 07 and expansions. A little old now graphics wise, but still a decent sim.

Live For Speed, same as above and mostly fictional tracks.

rFactor, great sim, loads and loads of free mods and content.

rFactor 2, still in beta but available to buy. Not played it myself.

NetKar Pro, great FFB and physics, graphics are pretty dated and mostly fictional tracks. Wil be replaced by Assetto Corsa which is look very good.

pCARS, still in alpha development and not available to buy anymore. Someone may lend you their login to try it out though.

They look sensational, thats the kinda gaming scene i want to get into, Always loved cars but never been able to afford a real one!!

Have to agree.

The other sims are great as single player games or hotlaping, but unless you join a private online racing club then iRacing is the only place you'll get clean racing. All the other games online are full of idiots in public severs.

But be warned.

IRacing is difficult, requires patience and practice and can be relatively expensive compared to other sims.

But it is the best sim racing experience at the moment.

Well all i need is to get my setup up and running, Im pretty set on getting into it, bought the pc in the first place for games!!

g27 or GT2 or CSR wheels?

Clubsport Pedals v2?

Wheelstand pro

just need help on the wheel if everything else is approved?

+1

I got a DFGT. TBH its perfect. I can't think why I'd need anything more then this... Project Cars, F1 2012 and DiRT 3 all worked like a charm with it.

Even worked on my PS3 for GT5, which was a complete bonus all round really and you can get them on ebay for less then £50.

when looking at the reviews is it really just as good as the other that are an extra 40 quid? It just doesnt seem very realistic and not as highly rated as the Fanatec for realism,

I reckon i could get

GT2 - 150
Clubsport pedals v2 - 100
both second hand

and the wheelstand pro from wheelstand for 95 pounds

The DFGT is a fine wheel but the pedals are terrible IMO. If you can find a 2nd hand DFGT for around £50 then maybe get CSR Elites instead of clubsports to save a bit more cash.

My bad, they are the v1, and is the csr wheel and pedals any good??

the pedals for the DFGT are perfectly fine.

Seriously get a DFGT second hand, if you find you do really like sim racing then upgrade the pedals.

Theres also a few simple mods you can do to the dfgt pedals to make them better

looking at the reviews id rather spend the extra on a gt3RS v2, payday is there to spend that little extra,

any one know anywhere to get second hand wheel and pedals from??

How can you compare it without trying it?

The DFGT wheel is fine. Pedals lack feel but you can always replace them later and keep the wheel. Typically £45-50 secondhand with light use which is very good value. The G27 is better but they make £160+ used.

I wouldn't personally touch a Fanatec wheel. I know too many people who had all sorts of trouble with them. Pedals seem more reliable.

just through reviews it doesnt seem as highly rated, so buy the dfgt and spend the extra on the pedals?

Some of the best drivers use the DFGT. Its by no means a bad wheel the only downside is the pedals which you have to buy anyway.

I just am unsure as i could get the DFGT, and find i dont like it and have to mess around selling it to get another wheel, which i would probably do eventually as id want to upgrade to a full cockpit,

I know what you mean. I had a DFGT for around 3 years then upgraded to a G27, I've had that for around 2 years now although I upgraded the pedals recently.

The only thing that I would consider getting now is a clubsport wheel with the formula rim ... and maybe a new shifter.

you like your g27? Ive heard good things about them, and what sort of shifter you looking at?

My G27 is great, I don't feel the need to upgrade it at all. Since I'd like to have the option of sequential and h pattern I'd probably go with the TH8RS, I do like the look of a Lightning SST though. But tbh there is nothing wrong with my G27 shifter, I just want to have something a bit better since I've started using the h pattern a lot now.

Ive been looking at the TH8RS, for future upgrade of course,

So either a g27 or fanatec would be a good choice?

and invest in some good quality pedals such as?

The TH8 is excellent, solid as a rock. Makes the G25/27 shifter feel like a toy, but at over £100 you'd expect it to be top draw.

If the DFGT wheel is as good or better than a Logitech Momo then you'll be ok with one. And as said, you can always upgrade the pedals later.

Well i reckon ill have three hundred to spend on all of it, just worked out how many hours ive done, could stretch to 350 maybe
