Hey folks, I have my driving test next week and just wondered if anyone had any good advice on things to do/not do during the test? What have people failed on? Any test examiners out there able to give me their insights? ;)

It took me 12 years to finally pluck up the courage to start learning to drive after a serious accident and whilst I feel reasonably confident I want to give myself the best possible chance of passing.

search the forums there was a similar thread last week ;)

remember to indicate at the right times, keep checking the mirrors even if you dont actually look in them, don't cause other drivers to break unnesessarily and keep your fingers crossed nother unexpected happens on your test :)

Always keep an eye on mirrors, always follow Mirror Signal Manouver procedure. Keep your speed steady but around the limit (not too slow/ or fast)

Relax, Wear comfy shoes, and if the lesson prior to your test seems to go bad dont worry, cos when it happened to me it made me concentrate more in the real test.

Go to toilet before you get to the test centre, you don't want to experience the test centre latrines.

You will feel better calmer and cooler and it won't play on your mind. I had the nicest as pie examiners and failed on them, then I passed on the most stern and strickest of the lot.

Your be fine, don't take chances and pay attention to your mirrors and whats going on around you.

if something bad happens, eg you make a mistake and you think you fail, forget about it and carry on.

It happened to me on my test, when i was doing the parallel parking, i caught the kerb slightly, thought i had failed.

However, as i had told been everyone, just keep going if you make a mistake so thats what i did. In the end i passed with 5 minors :)

Hopefuly you'll get a friendly & chatty examiner.

If that's the case then just be chatty bis ack, friendly, tell them how useful driving will be for you but don't distract yourself from driving. I did this on my second test and I passed. My driving compared to my first test was identical.

Go figure

My examier was quite lenient on me, and he had a reputation for being an utter swine :p

My mum says chew chewing gum, apparently helps you conentrate :)

I almost failed mine for driving too slowly even though I watched the speed limit and stuck to it religiously, apparently it was mostly in my approach to a roundabout though.

Mirrors are hugely important, not that you'd know it from the way people drive after they get the license..

If you dont normally chew gum then dont do it, just go along in your most comfy clothes, be polite and remember if you fail it's not the end of the world :)

I think because I didnt care about failing it's why I was relaxed enough to pass it first time!

Don't look at the examiner's clipboard and, if something goes wrong during your manouvers, take a moment to compose yourself before doing anything else. I stalled the car during my test, but actually got congratulated by the examiner at the end for the way I handled it - just stopped everything and started from scratch.

Check what the examiner is wearing, too. I got lucky in that my examiner was wearing a Hearts tie (I did my test in Scotland) and I'd checked their results so before we'd even set off, I'd been praising his team ;)

You just need to keep calm and go in to the test concentrating 100% on your driving, take things slow and think everything through before you do it, remeber all of the procedures you have been taught in terms of mirrors and signals etc and use these every time.

It will fly over.

Goodluck ;)
