Thanks to Admiral I've had 9 days insurance free driving

All started when they sent me their obligatory over priced renewal at the start of the month. Obviously I went through their website and almost halfed the price, contacted them with the quote and paid, which you would then expect to be all hunky dory.

Think again...they then start emailing and mailing me saying my payment details had expired (this is on the old policy, I gave them new details for the new policy) so I phoned them and they say everything's ok. Then this morning I get a letter saying my insurance has been cancelled and i'm being charged £22.50 for it. It turns out my new policy is not active and my old policy failed to renew because the guy that set it all up did so incorrectly. It's then taken them 9 days to inform me I have no insurance.

Luckily I haven't driven since Monday, but what's the worse case if I've been caught ?

If its a genuine fault by the insurance company I think they would say you were insured for that period if you got caught by the police.

Wrong, it is the driver's responsibility to make sure they have insurance.

If you'd been caught you'd have had a letter/policeman telling you you'll be getting 6 points.

Wronger, insurance companies are allowed to and have backdate insurance when they make clerical/admin errors.

Worst case would be an IN10 on your license for four years (6 to 8 points) and £180 fine. That would completely screw up any insurance premiums for the next 9 years.

However this does appear to be primarily the fault of the insurance company, so providing you had the evidence that you had paid for the new policy then it's unlikely it would go any further.

I guess I'd better ring my insurance company every single time before I drive my car then just in case they have screwed something up and the letter in the post hasn't reached me yet ;)

Did you not get a new policy number and a receipt of payment (or evidence payment has been taken from you)?

I got told they don't create a new policy they just copy the details over, so my policy number stays the same.

I only usually check my bank account once a month, at the end to transfer remaining money out, so i wouldn't have noticed it until today any way.

They back tracked through my phone call history and found the new inactive quote and I was told it was mistake in how it was set up.

They are manually putting through my policy and they're calling me back to verify it's all gone through successfully. I assume the policy dates will be the same and I will show up as insured from the correct dates - will check that when they call back.

So no email confirmation or anything? Whenever I've spoken to Admiral to make changes to my policy, I've had email confirmation, usually before I've finished the phone call!

Take it as a hint...change company!

They're the cheapest :(

Nope, don't think I've ever got a confirmations like that but they obviously have my email address.

They don't make it easy for you sometimes ....bloody insurers.

I wrote my car off so borrowed someone elses (have 3rd party cover on 3rd party vehicles on my policy) over the weekend.
Monday morning I get a latter stating that until I get another car and insure it with them the policy is frozen/cancelled

I wasn't happy when I found out I had been driving uninsured for the weekend. :(

This is standard procedure if you have made a total loss claim. In fact many insurance companies will simply terminate your policy at that point.

I had to call them back, my policy is now active again and its just resumed from the initial start date. They also said that I was covered if I was to have had an accident last week.

Today has been one giant ball ache of mistakes. I received yet another order of the wrong product (bike parts) because 2 products had the same product code and the product that I actually wanted they weren't sure they even did or actually had any stock of lol
