dropped my E8400

help its not working? I had to push the lid thing on the cpu quite hard and push the lever down, hard too, is that normal?? basically first of all it powered on then off again after a few secs, but no display, then after some messing about it stayed on with nodisplay,, have I bugered the cpu by forcing the lid thing down??

I had to give mine a fair bit of welly when I put it in,

If its a new build I think it may be something else?

As already pointed out above the CPU has a notch on two opposite sides, this is to accomodate plastic noddules on the socket, will only go in one way

Is the 4-pin 12V plugged in? That's usually the problem with no display.

You do need quite a lot of force to get the CPU locking pin down.

Classic response in that thread.

Get two boxes.

In one put your small screwdriver, your anti static lead, your pliers. This is you PC tool box.

In the second put a saw, a monkey wrench, that hammer. This is you round the house tool box.

Don't use the PC tool box on your plumbing, don't use your round the house box on your PC! Ever!

Glad you got it working, and at least you kept your sense of humour. :D

Those Quad-cores are tough, they can take quite a hammering! (Literally)
