So I was cleaning out my case and changing the GPU, silly old me and my butterfingers ended up dropping the card, whilst standing.
I managed to stop the gpu from going straight down by using the top of my feet, GPUs these days weigh a tonne :( my feet is still aching lol.
After bouncing off my feet it landed on the rug but still some damage done:

I gave it a shake and don't hear any loose bits. Other then the piece on the pic that broke everything else seems to be in tact.
I had someone offer me £235 for it as well, I am pretty sure it will still work as I am assuming that piece is just to keep the card secure in place on the motherboard.

Anyone else ever had a gpu in a similar condition working?

Either way I guess it will have to go into spare parts box for now as I cannot sell it as its technically broken :/

Looking at that picture it will be fine, you can use a file and tidy the area up a little, but should still work as nothing there but the part to latch it to the pcie slot. That was lucky you didn't break the pcie pcb part.

Oops. Fortunately not a vital piece.

Tut,tut....now its only worth £700 on the used market instead of £750.

:D

Yes, very close!

could easily glue a corner piece on.
I considered it for a brief second, but was too lazy :P plus then there is the risk of it breaking and getting stuck in the mobo down the line so I just chucked the piece in the bin.
If I ever need to use it again I guess I can always just use a gpu support to hold it in place, however as its a 2 fan card its not as heavy as the newer cards so should be just fine without it as long as the screws are in.

it won't get stuck in the mobo it doesn't go in the slot.

It will be fine, without the latch. Cards before came with no latch and the latch on the motherboards is a royal pain when sometimes you can't get to them with configurations that block access, like a cooler in the way. My current setup I removed the PCI-E latches off the motherboard where the graphics cards sit, because there is no way to get to them once you put the cards in, they can be clipped back in later if needed, but the PCI-E latches cause more problems than they solve in most cases. Computers before didn't have these on the motherboards and when they started adding them people ripped the motherboard latches off because they couldn't get to them, some cases people ripped the whole motherboard PCI-E lane out because they couldn't access or remove the latch and damaged their motherboard while trying to remove a gpu or other card with a latch.

This is why I always check can the GPU be removed after inserting and get access to the latch and if not I remove the latch from the motherboard and put in the motherboard box and if needed later can put it back on. I have two removed on my GodLike right now because there would be no way to remove the cards with the sli setup and the cooler used on the cpu. Only way to try remove them would mean to take the whole motherboard out with everything plugged in (if you can get to the screws to remove the motherboard, in most cases you can't) and then try slide a screwdriver to get to it and that adds risks of screwdriver damaging something. So easier to remove the latches and save all these headaches they are easy to remove and put back on if you need them later for a different setup that allows easy access to them.

Is this 580? 8gb? Worry not, put it in and it goes as nothing happened. that small clip is handy but not vital.
if its 580 u can get 400£ for it and even more. so dont be a mug.

Ah I didnt think about that, but your totally right, was a royal pain putting my new card in when I had the Noctua cooler. After a lot of scratches and swearing I had to take the cooler off before I could replaced the card easily.
