Hi all,

Just had a phone call from the wife, one of her colleagues sons have dropped his PS3 and now the hard drive is making a noise.

Local PC repair shop is asking for £100 + labour to fix it.

She's asked if I can take a look at it for her. I've got experience with laptops and 360s but no PS3s.

Working until late tonight so it'll be 10:30+ before I can look at it, so no idea what the noise is.

I am thinking that it probably isn't the hard drive itself but the HDD case maybe? Anyone any experience with this or ideas what else to check?

He needs it for xmas due to getting games as presents so it's going to be a rush job.

PC Repair shop looking to charge to repair a PS3? Sounds a bit...odd.

Anyway, just take the harddrive out and put it back in to make sure the casing just didn't pop out a bit.

Just going off what i know from changing my own hard drive in my ps3. If its the casing round the hard drive that will be fixable if its just bent a bit. Id also have a look at the hard drive.

All i can really suggest is refitting the hard drive and if it needs replaced then its the cost of a new hard drive and if the cage round the hard drive is bent then just try and push things back in place.

Hope thats some sort of help.

Indeed, I'd open it up and just look around. It could be a piece of plastic floating around inside, or the hard drive may have jumped a thread and is now wobbling.

I'll probably back up the PS3 harddrive anyway for them on to my external hdd, just to be safe. Then if it does fail at some point or needs replacing I can just upgrade it for them for cost of the HDD.

Thanks :)
