Dropping FPS/Stutter ?

I've noticed in a few games (Outriders is one game that I've noticed it a lot in) that I get sudden drops in FPS or very short stutter.

I can be getting about 140-144 fps but all of a sudden for a split second it will drop to what appears to be 60FPS.

What would cause this? maybe I have some settings wrong in drivers ?

Brief details of the system:

2080ti
Ryzen 3950X
32GB Ram
LG 38GL950 38" G-Sync Monitor

Thanks

Some games are just poorly optimised for the wide range of hardware they are expected to run on, this can result in minor stuttering and sudden drops in FPS for no reason at all.

Either that or it could be a G-Sync issue. If you have the 'Enable settings for the selected display model' option ticked within the Nvidia control panel I would turn this off, I had more stuttering and issues when I used this option.

Where is that setting please I can't seem to find it.

Thanks

Its in the Nvidia control panel under 'Set Up G-Sync' option. Right Click on your desktop and select Nvidia Control panel.

That's weird I don't have that option.

It says "To enable this monitor set it as a primary display on the Setup multiple displays page.

But I don't have multiple displays....

Do you have an adaptive sync setting on your monitor that needs to be activated?

This should allow that option to be visible within the control panel.

Not that I know of, just had a quick look and could see anything. It says GSYNC is on.

I think that setting applies only for monitors which are not G-Sync validated. I believe the LG 38GL950 38" OP has is.

My AW3821DW is, and I also do not have that option.

Outriders is notorious for stuttering, I wouldn't judge your system on its performance in a broken game. What other games do you notice this in?

Do you have any motherboard bloatware installed like MSI Dragon Centre, or any resource hogs running in the background? You can check CPU usage using Task Manager.

No still Windows 10

Cheers

TBH I don't notice it in many other games, I haven't played games on the PC for a while but as I have Gamepass I thought I'd try outriders. However, I have noticed it on Lost Ark which just released. I'll try some other later.
I have/use the Asus Armoury crate, I think the biggest recourse running is the Windows antimalware.

Most likely due to Unreal Engine. Nearly every PC game running on that has stutters.
Outriders and Lost Ark both use UE.

I've just tried a few games and all run fine, Destiny, Tomb Raider, Marvel Avengers etc. So guess you may be right, it could just be Outriders etc.

That is likely the reason for frame time stutter. Most games especially DX12 suffer from shader cache stutter and general io streaming stutter.

Roll on direct storage.....

Outriders is unreal engine 4 right? As that engine is horrendous, look at the likes of Borderlands 3 too....
