Dropping out

Hello. My internet keeps disconnecting and it is very frustrating. Some days it will disconnect, reconnect then within 20seconds disconnect again! All phone sockets have filters on that are being used. Are there any settings that I may need to check on my router in order to prevent the internet dropping out so much?

The router is on the landing upstairs and the main socket is downstairs in the hallway but this is not practical for the router to go there due to using a cable to connect my computer too it (router is not plugged into the main socket coming into the house). Would this be the reason it disconnects or are there others out there who don't plug there router in to the main socket?

-Thanks

What ISP do you have? Post your modem stats? Does the disconnections happen at certain times of the day?

Im with talktalk. It used to disconnect more at around 5/6PM but now it does whenever really. Not always set times. Which stats are you after? Im in the router now (not physically, lol).

Your net connection could be dropping due to loss of sync or loss of PPP. Looking at your stats it appears to be losing sync.

First thing I'd try is plugging the router directly into the test socket for a few hours at least and see if there's any change.

26dB line attenuation on ADSL2+ should net you a lot more than 8mbit even with 12dB noise margin. I would bet your extensions are causing an issue. Do as Griff suggests and see what happens!

Saying this from experience but when I was with TalkTalk I use to have disconnections every now and then, and in some days no net at all during peak times.

Moved to O2 and been very stable for 3 years... until problems developed on my line, but that's a different matter.

My mum is pretty sure she didn't pay for the 8mbps. She thinks its 20mbps but don't quote me on that.

The fact your DS sync speed is 8192 and you have a DS snr of 12dB suggests a "capped" 8Mbps product.

The reason for using the test socket isn't necessarily to see if there a speed improvement rather by doing so it eliminates all the internal wiring (extensions) meaning you can get a more accurate idea if the regular sync drops are caused internally or externally.

Just to confirm are you using the test socket or have you merely connected it to the master socket?

NTE5's have been around since 1980 so you should have one. Check all your sockets and look for one with a horizontal split about a third of the way down.

Dont think there is a product out there which limits you to a 8192 sync? His upload sync suggests he's on an ADSL2+ product.

This was with the cable in the master socket.
