I occasionally hear some drum and bass tracks I really like the sound of but I don't know enough about the genre to go out and find new artists. I tend to like the dark and heavy stuff. Can anyone recommend some artists to look into? A lot of stuff I used to listen to was from the 90s and 00s. If I can get a few playlists made in Apple Music that'll give me a. good start to go exploring on my own.

It is a funny genre for me - I don't like a lot of DnB but then tunes like this come along:

basically most drum n bass now days is all commerical stuff like chase and status and the likes...liquid drum and base like pop drum and bass basically. not many people actually do the proper dark dnb sound of the 90s which is a shame.
 
I have very few DnB albums in my vinyl/CD collection...but I do have LTJ Bukem...Roni Size...Goldie.

Some others off the top of my head Ed Rush & Optical...Adam F...Photek...A Guy Called Gerald...I think some artists just did one DnB album and then moved onto other electronic genres (breakbeat/techno)

It goes through phases but there is some darker stuff out there but it's not the same as the 90s because that was the 90s. Times change, the classics remain, tastes and tech change.

The difference is at least not as bad as hip hop/rap when compared to the 80s/90s.

You're going to find a lot of the 'dancefloor' or pop DNB or whatever you want to call it stuff these days, as that's the trend and taste these days. There is other darker stuff out there though, just have to look for it.

Appreciate you may have already rinsed these, or seen my other posts about them, but I'm a big fan of the Peshay 'History of Drum and Bass' mixes on Apple Music. Possibly a bit skewed towards GLR, but the later ones get a touch darker :)

Bad company are 100% fantastic for heavy and fat base lines.

I used to go clubbing in Edinburgh regularly (started in 1999 and did so for 15 years) and I can still remember the feelings of the vibrations ripping through your body.

Some good suggestions here. Do you use Mixcloud OP? Some great D&B DJ's on there that post regular mixes. Syphon probably my fave, particular his Underground Credentials series. Some 90's classic mixes on there too from the likes of DJ Hype and of course, the legendary set form Doc Scott at Metalheadz. Enjoy :)
