Drummer - did we do right?

Just watched the drum solo on that site (yeah, it's that bad . . .) and I gotta say I wasn't to impressed - just a double bass and a couple of toms/cymbals chucked in for good measure. I think you did the right thing getting rid of him :D

(young drummers are all about the groove, man!)

That is one tip for all group members.
If a drummer is crap then the rest of the band is crap.
All through my 35 years of gigging I've been very lucky to have had good drummers behind me.

im a drummer, and what you said there is kinda wrong... you can have bad drummers and good bands...

but i aint a bad drummer...so..

thats wrong, he was doing some quite good flams there, shame about his timing.

He does normally have the audience transfixed with his solos and he usually gets a standing ovation.

Of course, you could have John Petrucci with a bunch of 12 year old beginners and they'd be rubbish.
What I meant to say was that if a drummer is particulary poor, he will bring the rest of the band down with him.
I've been watching local 'rival' bands for the last 30 years and I can honestly count on about 8 fingers the amount of local bands I've had to leave the pub at half time. It has to be really bad for me to leave because I give everybody a chance. Last week was such a case because they had a young drummer who didn't know the most basic classic rock songs such as Alright Now, Can't Get Enough, Smoke On The Water etc. He didn't even know the drum fill right after the solo of Alright Now so they're all standing there looking at each other when to come back in. This isn't only his fault but the rest of the bands for not listening at rehearsals. The guitarist and bassist were bloody amazing though but not enough for me to listen through the bad timing.
Just for the record my own band was one of the 8 bands I walked out on when I saw them about 3 years before I joined them. They were absolutely awful and my mate said that if I didn't follow him to the car he would leave me there. Quite ironic I auditioned for them when I had the memories from 3 years earlier. Theres a bit more to the story than that if anybody wants to hear it - I like telling a good tale :)
