Strange as i got the problem as well, it only happens when i select video files in explorer, this is on a new install too, i just searched for a fix and found one. :)

1) Open a command window (Start->Run, type in 'cmd' hit enter)

2) To remove media preview, type and hit enter
regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

If you need to restore media preview, type and hit enter
regsvr32 shmedia.dll

I think its got something to do with codecs, like if you don't have the right one it will crash when trying to read the file properties, i suspect it usually just doesn't bother reading it if it can't but for some reason it does and crashes, this fixed the problem but you won't get the video information anymore.

Theres a virus that does this.

I've scanned with avg but if that fails to pick it up what else should i use?

Thing is im almost certain i remember it happening after i installed the beta so i don't know how i could have picked one up, where would this virus come from? :(

I hope not but its a bit of a worry when someone says that, so im now doing scans with a few virus scanners then ill probably just do a format and install of windows because i have another problem i need to sort with my sound card. :(

I have this problem in one particular folder on my HDD that contains video files.

Will try the method above and see if it works, I already disabled DEP on explorer and that helped slightly, but I still occasionally get errors.
