Hi

Building up new setup E6600 and Gigabyte SD3 mobo just about to connect my Sata HDD (Maxtor 200gb SataII 3.0gb) but which socket on mobo do I connect to Orange or Purple and if so which one ? Only using the one HDD . Also on back of HDD I have a jumper setting:
SATA 1.50gb/s Mode Setting and the other J4 (Partial) (thats where jumper pin is on straight from box)

So is this jumper setting correct or should it be on the Sata 1.5gb pins? Am only using the one harddrive. Complete noob as Ive never used sata before
Thanks for the help and your time.

Connect it to the yellow one mate. That's the ICH8 controller, which from what I gather is better than the JMicron one.

Thanks mate Ive stuck it into Number 1 but still wondering about that jumper setting on back of HDD any ideas?

SATA hard disks do not need jumper changes. This only applies to IDE hard drives that needed to be set to Master or Slave.

You only need to change it to "SATA 1.50gb/s Mode Setting" if your motherboard is SATA I only. But your board is SATA II so you can leave it where it is.

dont you remove the jumper to enable sata 2 mode?

i just put mine in the purple jmicron slots, the difference in performance between the 2 is minimal and you dont need to f6 drivers in with the jmicron during windows install.

Im back onto this build now after sticking other computer together ... it wasnt SataII 3.0gbs so I had to put jumper onto 1.5gb setting and it worked fine. So now on the SD3 mobo do I go with NO jumper or leave it where it is on 'Partial' J4 jumper setting ... Confussion reigns now :(
