DS3 or DS4

i will say DS3 as that what i got, Not got any problems so far clocks very well 460+ ,only problem i got wich i think is with all the gigabyte boards is the ram setting is not working 100% (can't select cas5 , will auto select cas3 )
else super board , i know orther people has got problem with raid I have not.

They should both have IEEE1394 controllers. IIRC the DS4 has more ports.

The main difference is that the DS4 has multiple PCI-e 16x slots.

EDIT: Hmm, I might be wrong about the FW ports...

Might be daft question, but does this mobo, having two pci-e slots support Xfire or SLi, or neither?

I was about to create a thread about this...

The DS4 Appears to have the better cooling, so thats the board i will probably go for :)

I thought there was a problem with the Giga DS3/4 and raid which required an as yet unavailable bios upgrade to fix (thread). Has this now been fixed?

Neither does SLI/X fire, the dual ports are for dual graphics cards for dual monitors, although im sure if you looked hard enough/waited long enough, there will be hacked drivers.

the DS3 dosent have firewire. As it isnt implemented on ICH, the more expensive boards mite have in on a descreet chip.

yes it does!!!!!!

There are 2 ports on the back for firewire (its the larger firewire socket, i have one at the minute, im unsure about header sockets for firewire though

The DS3 is good, mine is on the F3 BIOS and I can pretty much choose any settings for ram speed I want, had my RAM at 820mhz on 2.2v at 3-4-4-9 timings (2gb D9 teamgroup pc5300 3-4-4-8 stuff)

I would have said the DS4 but if you can mount a 80mm fan on the graphics card or a 40mm on the northbridge itself directly then i think the DS3 is good for ya ;)

thats funny i cant see firwire or headers for firewire, (im talking about the GA-965P-DS3 btw)

No firewire on the DS3, the DS4 and DQ6 do however. The rear panel has the symbol for firewire but those are just USB 2.0 ports. I would feel an ass if the DS3 did have firewire as I personally own a DS3 and have bought a PCI firewire card for it.
