Hey guys,

Right now Im not wiz on overclocking, so im not sure whats best to chose here, I hear that they are both great overclockers.

With the E4300 9 x multiplyer, and the P5N-E SLi 's 1333 Mhz Fsb, does this make it any better for overclocking against the ds3's 1066 Fsb ?

I havent yet read the begginer guide to overclocking on the forum yet, so please forgive me if I say anything dumb :P

I also read on a thread here that the P5N-E SLi 's Southbridge can get toasty, would overclocking be the cause of this getting hotter ?

I know that the P5N-E SLi , is a sli motherboard, i dont plan to use it first of all, but in the future I could, I also dont mind that the ds3 is not SLi.

I would also be greatfull for any views on either board, I hear loads of praise for the ds3, but would like to know about them against each other.

Edit : the board im talking about is the Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 , here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-221-AS

Ok, im confused, Ive seen once I view the motherboard on overclockers it says its 1066 FSB, but when the motherboard is viewed in the quick area where its in a list of other motherboards aswell, it says 1333FSB ???

Can the 1333Mhz only be used for quad core CPU's ?

THanks

Slinger

The general consensus seems to be the 650i board. It is especially superior if you have cheap / midrange RAM, because it allows you to set the RAM speed independantly from the CPU, so you won't be limited by your RAM.
Also, for the price & features, I think it is slightly better value for money.

Get the Asus P5N-E! Just ordered one myself yesterday with the 4300! Gonna be a little overclocking wizard!

I heard the Asus is the best overclocker in that price range now! And extremely easy to use, so it should be good for you if your not an overclocking wiz! ;)

I would be going for the geil 6400 ram, most common 2gb kit that everyone seems to be using, is this a good choice for the motherboard ? What about the Ocz 2gb kit for the same price ?

The Geil seems to be very poor at the moment, it doesnt seem to be able to hit 400mhz at the latencies its meant to so i went for the OCZ Platinium kit at the same price!

It will, there just seem to be lot of problems with it, ie fussy about voltage, faulty kits, etc

That's not the FSB, that's the CPU support. The actual FSB maxiumum supported in the BIOS is 3000 (750x4) which is adequate to get an E6600 to over 6GHz on the 9x if you have the chip and the cooling.

Neither the DS3 (650/2600FSB Max) or the P5N-E SLI will run out of overclocking headroom for you, don't worry.

I should recieve mine today to, I think I went with the Geil Memory. Hope that wasnt a bad choice.

Only problem is I wont be able to run my new stuff till I get my RMA gfx card back as I don't have any other PCI-e gfx cards

I went with the OCZ memory, couldnt be bothered with if the Geil stuff if it was borked or something!
