DS3 Purple ports

I have a P965 DS3 that I am going to use as a home server but it only has 4 sata ports and the 2 purple ports used for raid.

Will the purple ports work in ther normal way if I connect 2 seperate drives to them so in effect I have 6 sata ports?

Just go into the BIOS and set the RAID as normal ports or something similar. You can use them as normal connections.

all the ports have raid if you set them up like that

The P965 DS3 only has 2 raid available ports. Wondered if it's these 2 that can be used normally for single drives.

Yes they can, as said above!! Go in to the bios and set the Gigabyte RAID controller to "IDE" or "AHCI".
