At the moment if I plug the CPU fan into the motherboard connection, the fan doesn't come on when I turn on the computer, is this normal? Will it come on automatically when it gets hotter?

SpeedFan does a pretty good job controlling the fans on the DS4. The fans start at full blast and then are automatically adjusted down / up according to how you configure SpeedFan.

Ok thanks, I'll investigate that once I've got Windows all set up.
One thing though, the motherboard connector has 4 pins - and it states in the manual that one of them is for speed control (something along those lines anyway) - but the fan connector only has 3 pins, it doesn't use this 4th one. So how is the speed controlled?

The fan is controlled via pulse width modulation or voltage - you plug the 3 pin fan into the 4 pin socket and set the fans to be software controlled in SpeedFan.

Yeah it says in the Manual for the DS4 you have to go into the PC Health Status in the BIOS, and set the Fan Speed Control Mode to PWM, just set mine up yesterday with the Freezer 7 pro, and it did that till i changed the setting, id feel a bit uneasy as well with that. :)
